I need to buy four 3ds consoles as Christmas presents for our kids..
Black, Blue, Red are no problem

Is there a fourth color I can buy that I can use with a Supercard DSTwo for US games?

The other colors I see say things like "Japanese only, will not play US games" etc..

I don't mind paying a little more if I can get four different colors..

    Otherwise I guess it'll be skins/covers/housings...

There's a pink one and an Ice White one coming as well (in Europe), but I don't think the US release has been announced yet.
There's also a limited edition Zelda bundle coming sometime near Christmas.

I didn't bother looking for specific dates, so maybe somebody else can enlighten on them?
I hope your kids don't fight over which color they get. :P

EDIT: as for compatibility with DSTwo, you just have to wait for an update by the SuperCard team and update your DSTwo to support the new 3ds firmware. Updating your cart is preferred before updating the 3ds' firmware itself.

You could always buy the limited edition black zelda one. Other than that I doubt, the pink or white colors will arrive in the US in time for christmas.

I have two boys and two girls, so it'll be black & blue boys, red & _____ girls.. Although one boy is a huge zelda fan, maybe that will hit at the right time..!

Firmware question: we already play NDSLs with DSTwo now.. Since the 3ds ins't hacked yet, i'd like to buy them a few 3ds games for their new system.. Will any of the game carts update the 3DS firmware (or try to)?
Can you ignore it or tell it 'do not update'..? I'll tell the kids to not update the firmware if that is an option..

If we can just keep playing DS/DSi games via the DSTwo until the 3DS is hacked, that would be great..

Sorry to spill your beans but I think there are only 3 colors available right now that isn't Japanese.

    *Aqua Blue/Cosmo Blue
    *Piano Black
    *Crimson Red (latest color)

Some games will prompt you of a mandatory firmware update. The updates can't be denied (some updates includes hardware boosts and bug-fixes the game requires for it to run), so you don't have a choice if you want to play that game.

For now, your ds/dsi will suffice.

You mean not even bother playing the 3DS until it is hacked (so the firmware doesn't update)..?

I meant that you could use the 3ds solely for 3ds games, while using your DSTwo on the other systems you have.

I wouldn't really count on a 3ds hack though. It'll most likely be quite a while until it gets hacked.

Define "quite a while".. I remember them saying the same thing about the DS when it first came out..

    Maybe I should re-think this..

Go DSi's until the 3ds gets hacked..

My worry is so many games coming out that are ONLY 3DS

Clearly, it's the future and they will be phasing out the older systems..

The ds was 'hacked' (the first flashcart, the r4, was released) within a year (probably 8-10 months; no source, so would be glad if somebody clarified it) of the ds' life. It's already been 7~8 months since the Japanese release and 6~7 months since it released world-wide. We only have 3 EUR roms dumped so far, with almost no progress, except the (allegedly) renowned Crown3DS. Although it is a mere perception, I believe it'll take around 1~2 more years for decent hack or flashcart to be made.

You can just use your 3ds for 3ds games, and the dstwo on your other systems.

I was hoping to upgrade to the 3DS because our DSLites are on their last pixels.. I have repaired and repaired them many times..

I guess if I go DSi, at least I'll have 4 colors to choose from..! :)

Are there any flashcarts I can get to safely play current DS/DSi games on the 3DS?

OMG You guys have this person all screwed up. Let me clear this up. The supercard DOES work on the 3DS. You might want to to keep a dslite for the sole purpose of updating the supercard. If the 3DS it could block the supercard UNTIL you update the supercard on a DSLite, or DSi/3DS thats not blocked out.

Ok. Now as for the 3DS not being hacked. 3DS mode is not hacked, neither is DSi mode except for one flash cart. HOWEVER: DS mode is. This means you can run DS Games on the supercard on the 3DS as well as homebrew.

Yup, you're entirely correct, he can update it as I stated in the first reply:
I was just recommending him to use the SCDS2 on another system if he were to use the 3ds to play 3ds games. Since some of them contain mandatory updates, I thought that it'd be more rational to use another system instead of constantly updating the bootstrap of the DS2 on each firmware update.

I guess I should have been a little clearer. :P

If all I need to do is check the supercard website to update it's software when the 3DS firmware is updated ( to block the supercard), that is easy enough..

It's basically what I do now when new roms are released with AP, right? Supercard releases a new version to bypass it and all is well..

Update the supercard on the DSL.. got it..

If I can go ahead and get 3DSs now, we'll be ready when it does get hacked..

    Thanks for the info!

The Zelda themed 3DS will be selling at Gamestop on Black Friday in the US.
    Good luck with that.

Um, yes... made so by Nintendo. It's not like a retailer can go ahead and sell a bundled hardware without the game that's it's supposed to be bundled with. :P

Also, it's a limited edition (meaning, it'll sell like crazy), so I doubt nintendo's going to sell it for a discount by excluding the bundled game.
