haha as expected, nintendo dropped their price from 25,000 yen to 20,000 yen

Kotaku says that it's $313, but it's going to be $200 for sure (they probably used a currency converter).

No doubt they did this to revive interest, sales are pretty abysmal right now.
They even knocked £50 off at my local gamestation, new units not used.
It's the right time to do it with OoT3D around the corner.

The Flare Red (not fire red) 3DS is releasing in time for Star Fox (July 14th).
The colour is simply for people who have not got one and let's be honest, this looks more appealing than Aqua Blue.
Nintendo released a red & black DSL (I think only in Japan, my uncle had one) which looks awesome so I guess it will look awesome with the 3DS as well.

edit: and let's not forget all the different colours for the DS.

The Red & Black DSL is not Japan only, my local game shop had Red & Black DSL, when asked what region, he said "NTSC mate".

Wonder why Ashcraft got the name wrong. It definitely says flare in the news release.

And Nintendo doesn't need to do anything with the hardware (maybe some build issues but they'd never need to have a press release for that) or price (at least until the holiday season when Vita launches). What they need is software. A color change isn't anything major that takes up much of their time anyway. I'm excited for this color, and I almost held off on getting a 3DS early until the color was released but needed something to play my DS games. Most likely gonna sell my current 3DS to a friend and buy this one (hopefully it releases in the US soon).

I might get it if it fixes the problem with the bottom shell scratches the top screen, and the loose hinges.

loose hinge problem will never get solved. the device is too small to have a great hinge mechanism unlike laptops (well thts what i think). i still think i will get the blue one since red is too common of a good color.

Was holding out for a red one but I'd like a price cut now that I can get a home console for less.

Still waiting for a game that I want to actually buy this thing for, at the moment there are games I'll get like DOA, OoT, StarFox but maybe not ones I'd pay full price for as well seeing I've played two of those for years and DoA is basically the same game as it ever was.

However once the likes of Luigis Mansion 2, Paper Mario, Mario & Kid Icarus are out then I'll get this and suddenly there'll be too many games to play what with the rest of the platforms I own.

Shame that the only 3rd party game to look forward to for me (that has actually been shown) is Resident Evil Revelations, I thought Nintendo was meant to have lots of them on boar but so far the results have been ports, rehashes, games yet to have been and cancelled.
