Damn, just updated my Gateway to use Omega. Now I wont be able to use it to update my 3DS to 6.3 when the time comes.

Hm.. sorry, but I dont understand this.

Why you cant update your NAND when you update to Omega..? Just take a game with the 6.3 firmware and you're done.

Or do I have overlooked something..?

Skimmed quite alot of pages, so may have already been mentioned. But wasn't a 'rumor' posted a little while back that gateway and I think it was DSTwo team (could be wrong) already have 6.1 exploited. (I know this post states 6.3, but have they not accomplished this also)

The more consoles that are eligible to be hacked at the time of release, the bigger the hb community. Most people that will go for homebrew are continuously active 3ds users (hardcores) and are likely to be fully updated. Yes, people who updated may chose to buy and older firm system just for homebew, but few are that hardcore and/or rich.

If you have one shot at it, make it for the largest possible audience.

Xbox 360 jtag/hacks - released straight away
PS3 - released straight away (bit foggy here considering the drama, but nothing was held back on premise of losing an exploit, it was held back because the people behind the work were aholes)
Wii - released straight away
PSP - released straight away
All consoles ever - released straight away

Of the consoles where hacks were held back, it was only the case WHEN AT LEAST ONE HACK was already out. So for example, the iPad, the latest 7.1 untethered hack isn't out yet because the peeps behind it want to hold off for ios8.
Same for various releases of PSP firmware, and same for the PSP part of the Vita.

Nobody holds back a release when there is no release already out there, doing so is just bullshit and making a false justification and makes no sense at all.

The 3DS has already saturated the market enough to make such an argument completely invalid and to consider such an argument as possibly being valid shows ignorance and lack of understanding of the reality here.

The only reason to do such a thing is to stay popular in the public's view, keep interest in you/attention seeking - going forward.

That is so true, back in the day (SNES, PSX, Dreamcast generations) people freely released just about everything. The PSX homebrew community was huge, as was the Dreamcast, because people shared anything they found.

Must've been a different time back then. I can't remember wanting to hold on to information, and I was excited to release whatever I could. I'm quite proud that my contributions led to a homebrew scene on the Genesis, SMS/Game Gear, Saturn, Neo Geo, and CDi (still waiting for that one to take off).

Then again, that's what I saw. The SNES scene started with a few people releasing stuff, same with the Gameboy scene.
