I was waiting on 6.3 for a while , and then I decided to update to the latest fw because I needed access to the eshop... oh well...

Are we sure that smea limited us, because I thought it was just because the exploit was user mode.

The limitation being referred here is that smea won't ever release anything related to the 4.x exploit. While he has some genuine reasons for withholding the release (such as enabling piracy for free), a major side effect is that from unlimited hacking potential it becomes severely limited hacking potential.
Kinda like the Stem Cells controversy.
So.......what's gonna happen now? Is the 3DS hacking scene dead in the water more so than it is now?

Far from it. There's real actual progress. Just not the one that really defines hacking as a whole.
The recent 6.x exploit just allows for... "homebrew loader" apparently. Kind of like 3DS flashcarts "rom loader". It's singular in purpose and usage.
It's less than ideal but better than nothing.
finally
Smeal did not create the exploit that has user mode access and intentionally limited us to user mode. It's a mistake in coding that Nintendo was responsible for and Smealum simply found it. It's not like he intentionally limited it. Don't like it? Well then find another exploit on your own then.![]()
Even if it's not a total-encompassing exploit, it being more widely understood and available can help others discover new exploits or launchers into the system.I'm not complaining that he can't find a better exploit, that's just fucking stupid. I'm complaining because he's basically ditching the <4.5 exploit scene for this shitty new exploit only because he's against piracy (AKA, he's against progress).
I don't have to find a new exploit, we already have the 4.5 one.

I guess a new 3DS purchase is in the near future for me.
Assuming that can done with the exploit (emulation and whatnot).

Why wouldn't it be, there is no need for kernel access to run emulators, they're still homebrews.
No idea, no one really knows if this is going to be released due to certain fears of abuse. I'd love to see Snes as much as the next guy![]()
Would the exploit work with a 2ds on 6.3, or is it like the psp with only the earlier hardware fully exploitable?

Well. Snes is an emulator. Emulator plays roms. Roms aren't legal unless you own the physical game and even then its legality is questionable. So by the extension of "not wanting to contribute to piracy", emulators are a no no.
