I was just wondering if there way a play current 3D movies out on the market on the 3DS? Like is there a video player in the 3DS?
Could you possibly convert movies currently on the market into a format which the 3DS can play?

I don't think the 3DS' 3D works that way. I assume for 3D movies on the 3DS, they'd have to be made for the 3DS.

Maybe we will see movies in 3DS format specific for 3DS?
Like UMD movies for PSP

But then what's all this talk about Netflix 3D which comes in the summer, being able to play 3D Movies on the 3DS. Wouldn't the 3D movies on Netflix be in the same format for the PS3, as they would be for the 3DS?

The 3DS can display the 3D effects used in any 3D movie. The video just need to be compressed to fit the 3DS.
Expect a 3D movie service soon (I'm pretty sure Nintendo even showed some 3D movie trailers while showcasing the 3DS).

Not if they do it right, no.

Damn that sucks, I was really hoping to test out some 3D movies. I guess I can wait until they release some, or until Netflix comes out on 3DS.

I just hope 3D movies on 3DS don't end up costing $40, cause that'll be a deal breaker for me.

Not really since PS3 Netflix has one screen on which two images are displayed. The 3DS has two screens with one image each.

Netflix on the 3DS would need a channel of its own.

Ah, that makes sense. Well I hope they release movies for it soon, and they don't cost a fortune.

I wouldn't want to watch a movie on the 3DS. Even if it is in 3D but horses for courses

I think it would be cool, as long as it isn't too expensive. Plus Netflix is $7.99 per month, and getting to watch unlimited 3D Movies? Sounds good to me.

There isn't.
And if there was, you'd still need the glasses.

No you wouldn't... that's stupid to even think that. It's still two seperate video streams it could easily be set to work with 3ds.

That said, Nintendo hasn't announced details on any player and I doubt we'll see a program designed to play any video we put on the system (ala PSP) but instead we'll likely see premium services only like Netflix as nintendo likes to have a death grip on what content is available on their systems.

Nope, it works the same way. 3DS' technology of displaying it is just different. Also, it's already been confirmed (At E3 '10 actually..) that there will be 3D movies available via the eShop and Netflix (announced at GDC 2011) but if you're looking for anything else like 3D porn or otherwise, you'll have to wait until 3DS mode is hacked (Netflix has a good selection of movies though, whether or not they're porn, and I'm sure a good share of them will be available in 3D as 3D DVD's exist)

Since the 3DS can view 3D pictures from other devices, I would assume it could do the same for videos (if there was a movie player).

That's what I was thinking. So unless someone can hack it like Wii, to install our own homebrew channels, we probably won't get a "Movie Player" as Nintendo would never allow that.

Soo, you can get your own pictures onto your 3DS? I don't really care if they're 3D pictures, I just want my pictures to show up

in one app or another

Im going to say never say never.
The Wii was NEVER meant to play games streaming through a USB port, right?
The hackers are there, the technology is there. In 6 years when the 3DS dies, who knows where we will be.

Can't agree with this more.

@Brian10122 - Yeah you can view your pictures on 3DS, just move pictures into the "DCIM" folder on your SD Card.
