you need to replace both x-clamps with m5 screws.

I did this before, here is my (working) method:

first take off the 8 black screws and both xclamps.
take off the coolers and screw out the standoffs. (8pcs total)
then throw the 2 xclamps, 8 black screws and 8 standoffs away in the garbage.

Now remove all thermal paste from both motherboard and cooling.
Then apply a little arctic silver on the motherboard and press the heatsink on the chip, take it off and you can see its evenly spread out.

then you need:
8pcs M5 1cm
8pcs M5 lock washer
16pcs M5 metal washer

put the lock washers on the screws then put them in the bottom of the motherboard.
use some normal tape to tape them down so they wont fall out.
now put 2 metal washers on each m5 screw.
After that you can put the heatsink over the screws and screw them in the heatsink.

Do this for both coolers and screw the M5 screws in good, the motherboard needs some pressure. Now most of the time the machine will work correctly.

if not, then use the fan to cool only the cpu and let it run for 15min, this will get the gpu so hot that the solder under it will reflow.
let it cool down completely and then turn it back on, then you can play again
