Talk about a heavy blow to the Wii Homebrew scene, trust me Nintendo have really done it this time and they mean business.

I think we need someone to create a dummy Wii firmware update based on the original which fools Nintendo's servers into thinking that the latest firmware installed. This dummy update would include everything that Nintendo has included in the original with modifications to use with homebrew.

Also, a patch would be released after every firmware update which would be installed via the HBC.

If someone can put this idea into action and get in touch with the creators of the HBC to allow automatic updates to use with my idea, then homebrew would be safe and nintendo would just give up completely.

Trust me, we need to play Nintendo at their own game and win the war against homebrew which will never end unless this gets resolved. Personally, I think Nintendo are taking the mickey by taking a page from Microsoft's book related to automatic updates for 3.4 and future updates which is not cool!

ok so i blocked wii.com in my router...
what exactly does that take away?
will i be able to play online? send messages and receive normal messages from other wiis? will i be bothered by nintendo to further update in the future?

That is called a Custom Firmware and is what happens on the PSP when a major update gets released

We really need something like that, now.

BTW, Nintendo truly is going to screw up all the homebrew this time. The Backup Loader made them REALLY angry. But it's kind of funny seeing how they delete IOS254 and not the Backup Loader one

QUOTE(tpformbh @ Nov 18 2008, 02:36 PM) Does this block wiiscrubbed disks? Read it on one page of a forum but can't remember which/thread?
Almost certainly not, although I'm curious. Could someone test it?

Updated. I have a wiikey. Homebrew still works.

i think wiikey blocks updates anyway. i updated last time, but still can't use the shopping channel.

Thats not correct. I have the Wiikey (well the original one) and it does not block any updates. Up until a couple weeks ago when I installed the HBC, I've always updated with my chip, and never had a problem.

from the wiikey website: "[2008.11.11] Update v1.2 Released - Update Blocker Feature Added!

An Update Blocker feature has now been added to Wiikey 2 and is available as a DVD update in the resources section. By default, this new feature will block harmful other-region updates to your Wii, that are included in some games, but allow own-region updates. There is also a config option to block all updates regardless of region. "

not entirely sure this relates to wiikey1 aswell.

That just block updates from game discs, not from WiFi too

correct me if i'm wrong but won't this be the case when cSM is released, Forsaekn is going to have cSM point to his own server instead of "N's" for updates

Wii Menu version 2.4 is nouw availlible for your Wii console. To update your Wii menu to the latest version, please select the Update button at the bottom of the screen or select the System Update option in Wii System Settings.

With this update, Parental Controls have been enhanced, USB Keyboard support is now availible for the Mii Channel, and system functions have been improved.

Because unathorized modifications to save files may impair hame play pr the Wii console, updating to Wii Meny 3.4 will also check for and automatically remove such files.

So very useful! Like, 103920 times posted already

So technically you should still be able to install WAD's if you update, as it affects IOS247, therefore put channels back on? Still scared to update and try it though. I play alot of Guitar Hero and faster SD loading and patching abilities would be cool, but at the same time I like my homebrew.

Haha another CRAPPY update that doesn't do anything else that killing our homebrew. Nintendo you FAIL!
I wouldn't mind having faster SD access, y'know
laugh.gif

And faster disc reading speeds too! (dunno about this one... but the former seems confirmed)

That doesn't seem too crappy to me

Correct me if I'm wrong.
If this unattended update thingie has really been deployed in this update, wouldn't be logical (for them, of course) to wire it into WC24 instead of using the System Menu?
Most of the infrastructure for autoupdates is already there - http, SSL, smtp/pop (maybe they could trigger autoupdates by mail?), heck there's even the CHANS virtual machine!

(That's just an uneducated guess, I'm not fluent in ARM assembler and I don't have time to actually do such an analysis.)
