Oh really?

Wii update 3.4 installed this morning. 5 hours later now, HBC still works.

Also from the Dutch EULA:

D. UPDATES EN UPGRADES

Om ervoor te zorgen dat je Wii-systeem goed en efficiënt werkt, worden updates, patches, upgrades en soortgelijke software automatisch op je Wii-systeem geïnstalleerd.

Laatst bijgewerkt: 10.10.2007

It's been in the EULA for over a year now.

it is indeed in the EULA but i have wiiconnect 64 installed and am online, but he only gives me the message of the update. he doesn't update by itself... i don't know why they put that in the EULA in the first place if they just don't do anything with it....

Thanks requiem4d!

it's weird they chose 254 to block, since all it is really used for by most end-users is the rather buggy MPlayerDVD...this doesn't disable backup launchers at all, which almost makes me think it was a "mistake" in a way.

oh well....still rockin' 3.2.
Given Nintendo's long QA cycle, this thing was probably already being QA'd before the first backup loader was even out.

I see the situation is still uncertain, anyway I'm on 3.3E (v1) and I have turned off WC24 and I always unplug my Wii after playing it so good luck Nintendo installing updates on my Wii with no electricity

I see requiem4d and forsaekn are already hard at work to solve this, and I'm really grateful to you guys. Hope you find a solution to this

No (at least not if you don't have TP hack installed), No and No.

Thanks but.. how can you install the HBC without installing the TP hack!?

Only modded wii's with firmware 3.2 or below can install the HBC without the twilight hack

Let me get this straight... Does the new Wii update block all of the applications? Or does it just block installing the Homebrew Channel? Does the Backup Loader still work?

Kinda makes me wonder if perhaps this whole notion wasn't the driving force behind making the DSi. If Nintendo makes their online a more prolific experience, they'll be able to put their grubby hands on more of what users do. Sending similar updates to DSi would seem a distinct possibility.

*sigh*

I was considering buying a Wii for Xmas... but it seems to be awfully hard to... customise

Or at least, keep it "customised" with all these updates

Yeah but at the same time, hackers are making progress too. Bootmii should be a great leap forward when it comes out

If you install the HBC and then delete the Twilight Hack, then it's still safe to update. I also tried running the Homebrew channel 9 installer from the homebrew channel itself, it still works.

So has anybody been able to install the homebrew channel beta 9 after the update? Because I remember marcan (or somebody from team twiizers) saying that they were going to use the bug used in the installation of beta9 in bootmii as well, and if it's been patched, yet another bug will have to be found.

Edit: just realized that there was no way to actually test the reinstallation of hbc9 with the twilight hack beta disabled...

It's sad to see part of the human race lacks basic reading comprehension.

What part of 3.3 doesn't auto-update don't you understand?

THINK FOR A SECOND.

Up until now you always had WiiConnect24 without the fear of updating, what makes today any different? OH BECAUSE 3.4 AUTO UPDATES. GOOD THING THAT FUNCTION ISN'T IN ON 3.3

And EVEN if it auto updated, which is kinda hard to do since THE NEW UPDATE REQUIRES THE USER TO READ THE UPDATED TOS. So using the current terms of agreement with Nintendo, it would be illegal for them to update your system right now. Which isn't possible on the current 3.3 menu.

God. Every time there is a new update it's the same old song and dance routine.

BRB TURNING OFF MY WII
BRB TURNING OFF MY ROUTER GUESS I CAN'T POST ANYMO-

Ignoring these paranoid freaks that can't think, Wiibrew has a nice list of things 3.4 does:

Notice: At this time, WiiBrew recommends that you do not update your Wii through Nintendo, as it disables some homebrew (DVDx, PatchMii, Twilight Hack). Recent reports suggest System Menu 3.4 removes all custom channels.
There is no way to install a patched version of System Menu 3.4 currently.

OKAY,SO
To sum up whole topic (which for some strange reason didn't turned into flamewarspamtrollcry topic)

I demand answers:

1. Does it remove any installed WADs, Homebrew Channel, Patchmii, Twilight Hack, cIOS, whatheverwiiawesomecustomapp?
2. Does it autoupdate?
3. If you turn down the WiiConnect24 it is still possible to play games such as Brawl online?
4. What 3.4 gives us
5. Is somebody working on an fix for this (like patched versions of added IOSes and patch to not autoupdate, if it does.

Sigh... This has already been said.

1.) It will kill the Twilight Hack. It will kill IOS254 (patchmii) HBC is safe for now. I don't install wads.
2.) I have not found an autoupdate function looking through the disasm, that doesn't mean it's not there.
3.) Online does not equal WiiConnect24.
4.) Faster SD access, improved disc reads. See http://wiibrew.org/wiki/System_Menu_3.4
5.) Yes, see http://www.softchip-mod.com/

1. Wiibrew reports it kills certain channels. It also kills .1beta of the TP back, weren't we up to .3? Maybe I have it confused with the Wiigator. In any case it does kill the TP hack.
2. It will act like Windows Update AFTER you update, right now it doesn't do a thing.
3. ....
4. Faster SD reading and it said Keyboard comp in the mii channel. Whatever that means.
5. Who knows. 3.3's minor update didn't get an official response from Twiizers (as in workaround), just an updated HBC. They didn't deal with the nonworking WADS.

Interesting enough, Microsoft is banning consoles who go online with modded consoles.

But giving Nintendo's innovative advances and breakthroughs in the fields of online multiplayer, I don't think we'll be worrying about this any time soon.

I do feel some pity for the members of this forum who have to share their Wiis and their siblings will update their console. My heart goes out to you fellows.
