***SOLVED***

2tb external hard drive and am wondering if i am missing something. Hard drive is a seagate constellation 3.5" with a ac powered hard drive caddy now formatted to fat32. previously i had split ntfs and fat32 for wii and gc. I have updated to all new cios files as well as updated usb loader gx, cfg usb loader, and wiiflow. usb loader it just freezes on initializing and wont budge. cfg it freezes on the main boot screen, and wiiflow will not allow me to set the path. wiixplorer sees the drive and sees both games i have installed for testing purposes. launching nintendont, i can play the gc game through it. not sure what the deal is with the loaders, but it's obviously something i am overlooking. any ideas? i should also mention that on the old wiiflow 4.1 (before wii flow lite days) it does recognize the hard drive and allows me to see the game. however, launching said wii game spins down the hdd and goes to a black screen.

Hello,

how did you format your hard drive?

is your hard drive in MBR format and not GPT?

have you tested with a Y cable with your hard drive?

can you test with another hard drive?

did you use "wii backup manager" to manage your games with the hard drive?

I am pretty confident it is formatted with mbr. I will double check that. I formatted it in disk management within windows then used guiformat to change the entire drive to fat32. I have not tried a Y cable as the hard drive is powered by an AC adapter and is recognized by the system. Other hard drives smaller than 2tb work intermittently. I used both wii backup manager as well as gamecube backup manager to manage each set of games. It's not an issue with the Wii as it happens across multiple systems. This is the largest hard drive I've tried to configure but in the past have never had issues with 1tb and lower drives until recently.

I think I've figured it out. I believe it's something with the 3.5" external enclosures I am trying to use.

Once the drive is powered on and the Wii is started up, the HDD spins up. Once USB Loader GX or any other loader is launched (aside from Nintendont), the hdd spins down which is then causing these loaders to not detect the drive. I have to do some digging and figure out what's causing it to tell the motherboard for the enclosure to spin down. Nintendont does not tell it to spin down and launches games just fine.

Figured I would check back in and give an update. Ordered a different brand of external enclosure and it seems to be working fine with both WD and Seagate 3.5 drives. Must have been something with the motherboard on this particular brand of enclosure telling it to spin down.
