I'm thinking of upgrading my Wii U's 128 GB SD Card to a 256 GB or 512 GB SD Card, and then moving the 128 GB one to my original Wii. But although I know the Wii U supports 128 GB cards, I am unsure if the Wii U supports 256 or 512 GB cards. Does anyone know the max storage capacity for the Wii U?

I do not see why it would not work up to 2TB in theory, but there is always a chance that something is not coded well and it breaks.
You are better off buying a hdd for your Wii U and you can store Wii U games/eShops/VC/GCN/Wii/etc..., in the SD you can only store GCN/Wii games (ULGX is not compatible with SD cards, so WiiFlow?)
256gb SD sounds like an overkill, at least you are using loadiine, but who use loadiine in 2017 anyway
