    Hi,
I upgraded from a 32GB to an 256GB Micro SD Card.
I copied all the files over but when I boot the 3DS up, after 1 second it just turns off.
    (My 3DS has Luma3DS).

What brand is the SD card? Have you ran h2testw on it to check its full capacity? Also, 256GB is a bit overkill for the 3DS. 64GB or 128GB would be plenty for it.

Make sure it's formatted as FAT32.
The 3DS doesn't support reading exFat formatted cards.

Cards >32GB are formatted as exFAT by default which the 3DS doesn't support and Windows' built in formatter won't even format them as FAT32, so it's probably still in exFAT. You can use guiformat or Minitool Partition Wizard to format it as FAT32.

try allocation size of 64kilobytes. I know I had some issues with gba injects at 32kilobytes. I think it's recommended for larger cards.

the problem I was having with gba games is that part of the bottom of the image was cut off and reappeared at the top of the screen. 64kilobytes fixed it as @TurdPooCharger suggested. I either have a 128GB or a 256GB card (can't recall which) now. I may have upgraded the micro sd card after buying a larger card for the switch. I know it's at least 128GBs.

looks good. another possible reason for the system to behave that way is if the boot.firm isn't on the root of the card. if it's not in ctr NAND as well, then the system will power on, then off quickly. you can download the latest boot.firm and use godmode to inject it into the ctrNAND.

From what I heard it's the other way around, people seem to have more problems with 64KB.

it might be dependent on the card or the system. I don't play my 3ds at all, but I found that gba issue annoying. these are all carts that I own, so I used the dslite to dump them, then I injected them into vc. the saves were a bit problematic. I dumped them, but I had to inject one at a time for agbsave.bin, since it can only hold one game at a time. trying to inject more than one causes the system to overwrite the original save. I found a tedious way around that, but now I have all of my saves and games intact.

You bought a fake SD card. Marketed 256 GB cards have actual capacities of ~238 GB (give or take).

Check for yourself by full Write + Verify the empty card in H2testw.

Most SD cards that are 64 GB and bigger come preformatted in ExFAT from the factory. Leon reformatting his card to FAT32 (and other settings) is just changing the file system to a standard that the 3DS understands.

This would be like if you were history scholar who specialize in British literature and law. You are given a stack of old documents written in fancy English cursive. Let's say you're new in the field and haven't learned how to read in cursive yet or can't be arse to waste more time than necessary interpreting the chicken scratches of so-&-so authors who wrote said documents. Luckily for you, your university department is well funded and has equipped cutting edge, high tech OCF scanners that can take high quality images of those documents and digitally convert them into PDF in plain fonts.

That's what reformatting from ExFAT to FAT32 is like.

    ***

My point still stands though about that card being fake. A dead give away is that real 256 GB cards do not show up having exactly 250 GB.

you're right. I over looked what was in the image. I assumed that even if it was showing the wrong information, the sd card was working correctly and wasn't a fake. he mentions that it worked, which is where the confusion lies. I did find it odd that he was able to test that quickly unless there was next to nothing on the memory card.
