1. what is the lowest system version that works with luma 8.1.1 and new 2ds xl
2. what are the real benefits of downgrading if you all ready have homebrew and cfw?

Don't think you have much power in that diction. People probably wouldn't even consider this.

For your first question I'm not entirely sure nor familiar with 2DS's.
Your second question however, most do it for gateway as far as I can tell. Here's a thread that might help.

Unless you need to use Gateway, there is no reason I can think of to downgrade.

4.0.0 for Luma, though I believe the lowest that any N3DS (including N2DS) console properly supports is 8.1.0.

I don't believe so because it requires a specific version of 11.4 that has the 3D options removed.

You can just use B9S on its own and boot into an unhacked environment with the kernel .firm files found on the guide's hardmod page.
Those go back to 1.0.0

why are you looking into downgrading when you dont even know why to?
