    I just remembered the file compressor I wrote for the C64. I was kinda stupid though and never wrote a decompressor... I've got a bunch of compressed files somewhere with no way of getting the originals back. They're just random images, so it's more funny than anything else. The most useless program ever.

    I browsed twitter for a bit, clicked on some political hashtags and watched in horror. I now feel like crawling into a hole. I don't know why I look at this stuff anymore, it's just pure disappointment at the division in politics and the seeming need to deprive people of basic human rights. I really hope we all smarten up and learn to respect each other someday.

    That could be fun... though I am going to try to stay out of politics on my account and just focus on DS content. It's easier if I don't give people a reason to hate me.

    @IS1982 true true. Granted I kinda just like annoying people on there, you can’t go more than one day without nonsense even outside of politics from what I can tell on that website.

    that’s why I support Elon owning Twitter, if people actually leave like they say they will then that damn website will finally be dead

    Sadly only some leave twitter, and musk has a habit of voicing political opinions that not all agree with, leading to more dumb cat fights in the replies. I feel like certain groups also feel that their views are more "acceptable" when such political opinions are shared, leading to more and more extreme politics coming out.

    I now have a 40 character password lmao. Soon I'm gonna look insane cause I increase the size of my passwords each year. Can't wait for when I've got a 100 or so characters.

    Yeah passphrases are smarter because ideally you should be able to remember your password

    Hopefully you don't meet the thing I got once where the password change box allowed so long, the system accepted another length and the entry box a further one still. Possibly the only time I have ever had to do the "please sir I have forgotten my password" thing.

    I'm like dirk gently (netflix adaptation) but for electronics.

    Also I've got a bricked Wii and a USB drive with the same size chip (physically) as the Wii NAND. I might try soldering on the Wii NAND to that and restoring my backup.

    It's stupid, but it's something to do. I might even try putting the chip from the USB onto the Wii. I've got no clue what I'm doing or if any of it will work. Haha I'm silly.

    These WiFi boards are a huge rabbit hole. I've spent a good few hours now just playing around with them and the firmware on them.

    One thing I'm stuck on though is the wireless settings I mentioned below.

    It seems like once you lose the few bytes that make up the settings, you're done. No more wireless ever again. You need to have the board specific data. I'm gonna see if there's any way to just pull the needed settings out of thin air, cause I've got 7 boards now that have lost their settings.

    I mean I have the settings, it's just that each if the 7 settings is mixed in with 51 firmware dumps, and it's more effort than it's worth to flash and test all 51 firmwares to each of the 7 boards.

    I got the DS prototype firmwares to work with wireless! It seems that each firmware contains settings specific to the WiFi board it was put on (0x2A - 0x1FF), and these settings are not interchangeable. You have to replace the settings for each new board you flash firmware to.

    Steps:
    1. Dump the original firmware for the WiFi board
    2. Copy 0x2A - 0x1FF from the original firmware
    3. Paste that bit in the same location on the new firmware
    4. Flash the new firmware
    5. Success!

    Got my WiFi board collection the way I want. I really only need these 4 boards lol. 40820D, 040615, and X2B prototype firmwares, and my handmade iQue board.

    Now if only these were real and not modded retail boards...

    This sounds insane, but what if the DS was used to test the Wii hardware? Meet "TWL USG Sequencer Inspection." This is a factory testing program which can't be fully explored due to needing special hardware to interface with a Wii mobo, but from what I can do it appears to have tests for video/audio output, voltage, NAND/SD, wireless, and more.

    I'm still wondering how Nintendo repaired software bricks on Wii.

    What I hate is that, after all these years consoles being out of production, Nintendo still treat such stuff as important company secrets. Come on, let us service the old stuff ourselves -- now that you don't do it anymore.

    Surprisingly very little.

    "00-07 enable SD to NAND"

    I've got 4 versions (v13.2, v12.2, v7.2, and v3.0) but only one version will boot (v13.2). Makes it hard to know what it's for.

    Though forest of illusion removed v12.2, v7.2, and v.30 a little while ago, so perhaps those were bad dumps?

    I got them all to boot through no$gba! It seems v3.0 is actually for testing DSis (it also specifies TWL dev units), but the rest are definitely Wii.

    [1/2] Aw man, I'm late for dev app of the week!
    Ever heard of Mic Tester? It was presumably a factory test app to check the mic and speakers. There are 2 versions dumped. One is very simple and just plays a tone in the left or right speaker.

    True! I love the style of factory apps. Have some more screenshots!
    The one asking to change a switch is one of the mic testers. Afaik you just place the motherboard of the console in this big box with connectors, and then you turn on/off parts of the hardware with switches. Sadly not having those boxes means it's impossible to see what's past this screen.
