For those who remember, I used to be MaverickWellington. I left GBATemp after a while for reasons not even I remember anymore. Hoping to find some old friends from here, but in any case, what's up everyone? How much has stuff changed around here? Anything to be aware of?

Welcome back.
Things kept ticking along really -- as a whole the site still likes hacking, still like games, still likes hacking games, generally content to be a thorn in the side of PR types and have discussions that make ladies come over all unnecessary while men drop their monocles. The hacks can be a bit different (softmods are not really much of a thing owing to security actually getting half reasonable, only took them 25 years), as might the games but much the same otherwise. Some people are still around, some left, some came back, new people came as well.

There is a groups section if you want to make your own group for things, though about the only active one is the cheats making one.

No the piracy rules are still in place as they would have been back when (don't link ROMs/ROM sites, can tell people all day long about how emulators and modding works though including directly answering questions that would outright kick copyright law in the shins).
Political stuff is mostly in the politics section. Can go there if you want, some good discussion can be had (though as the userbase skews younger and American then not everything is as well formed as it might be and a bit America centric) and some people like to throw a wobbly but as every various side feels aggrieved it usually means something is going right.

The thorn in the side thing is no need to be relentlessly optimistic* with nose so firmly up the arse of game pubs/devs/whatever that you can smell what they had for breakfast before it is done digesting.

*give or take 5 minutes a month when you pretend to care about overtime and crunch culture.

You wrote "Good god stuff's changed" in your subject line, so I guess you already know the answer to that question..?

I wouldn't have thought things had changed much at all. But then, I don't pay much attention to the "World News, Current Events & Politics" or "The Edge of the Forum" subforums, because "Good god", why on Earth would you come to a video game message board and expect coherent discourse there?!

The site as a whole feels the same as it always has. Maybe there's a few more weird humor kids in the EOF, or maybe it was always that way; for the most part, gbatemp likes to stay as stable as a 3ds update.
