There's a 360 at my local pawn shop that I'd like to buy, but I'd rather not if it's banned from live.

How would I be able to tell?

Thanks.

Found this one:

. go to http://service.xbox.com

2. In the left column display under console management, click on "register a console."

3. Either register a new windows live ID or login with one you currently have.

4. Click on the "register a console" button.

5. Enter the serial number of your xbox 360 (found on the back of the unit) and all of the other informaiton. everything but your serial can be bogus, but just make sure you have your region on united states and correct zip codes according to state and then hit submit.

Either A) an error screen will pop-up stating "This service is temporarily unavailable. Please try back again later" which means your console is "flagged" for banning OR cool.gif it will take you to the online submission form where you can fill out information to return your console to MS for repair and you are not "flagged".
