how long is this drifting a thing and which console doesnt have it happening.....its made this way by purpose so you can keep buying new ones and they earn more money. 1 party is happy and the other one is not.

Had drift twice since around 2018 and it's such an easy fix. A little bit of surgical spirit (Or isopropyl alcohol) and a q-tip is all you need to fix it. Should it happen? No. But I think the complaints are a little too harsh for such a simple fix. Of course there's other reasons the joycons can get drift, but it's usually just dust and dirt which needs cleaning out.

I had to open up my left joycon and swap out the joystick. It's shitty plastic parts and Nintendo is not my friend. :)

That's not a fix, it's just a temporary solution, it doesn't fix the root cause, which is the hardware damage/wear over time that's occurring. I use IPA on my cousin's sticks and it only lasts a week or two.

The issue is how the sticks work. Internally there are graphite pads which the stick moves against, and it senses the position of the sticks by measuring the resistance on those pads. But graphite is soft, so it wears away over time by the rubbing action. All this loose graphite dust causes the sticks to glitch out, because graphite is a conductive metal.
It gets partially cleaned away by the IPA, which temporarily solves the problem, but once the pads are already significantly damaged the graphite wears off much more easily so the IPA "fix" is not very effective anymore.

Also, the damage to the pads eventually leads to other issues like less accurate (loose) sticks, until they are eventually worn away to nothing and the sticks would not register movement at all.

Replacement sticks are pretty cheap, and more of a lasting fix, but for some people the sticks wear out so quickly that it's a constant upkeep replacing the sticks every several months. As they still have the same design flaw, and are likely lower quality to begin with, as chinese knockoffs tend to be.

My switch was from around christmas 2017, got it from ebay around March 2018, but didn't have drift until end 2019 where it got extreme in Pokemon Sword.
Proceeded to change the sticks with some I bought on Amazon, but the ones I got were faulty to begin with. When I changed them back to the originals with drift it got a little better. Nowadays I don't play too much with the switch, so if I play it doesn't bother me as much as before.

My PS4 gets quiet loud in the meantime, so maybe I will do a big restoration weekend later where I deepclean and repair every older console I have.

It only became a problem last year before Current Events, and I tried doing some compressed air to handle it. It's lessened on my left Joycon but somehow got only worse on my right Joycon. And it's embarrassing for them to say it's a nonissue.

I decided to replace mine, instead of sending them in to N. My Left Joy-Con when taking it apart: one of the ribbon cables wouldn't release ( I have done them before and know how to get them to do so...)
It (plastic receiving clip) simply shattered as if overheated at some point. The flip-up clip wouldn't budge. The rIght side Joy-con repaired just fine, causing me to buy a whole new left side and having parts leftover for a future left side repair.
This is why I [refuse] don't buy games that are Joy-con dependant, I use mainly my Pro controller(s)
I'm looking right at you Club House Games

I feel your pain, my sibling-in-arms. That blasted game! Meanwhile, I bought a Pro Controller just to gt rid of the drift, which I guess means I played right into Nintendo's hands. They were after our money from the start!!!
