Not sure if im the only once who constantly has FPS problems with GMOD but man even on low settings i have dips to below 30 occasionally. i have a RTX 3070 My PC should have no issue running source games. Is this just a GMOD problem?

It depends on how much CPU the game uses. The physics of the Source engine is very resource intensive.

Your RTX 3070 will still struggle in running TF2 maxed out like pretty much every single computer around

some gmod maps are made super terribly and even bring your pc to it's knees, i know that one of the cuplrit maps to me is rp_evocity_vsomething i forget which version, probably most of them

Try the most demanding CFG around on the new XMas maps

but why would i use deliberately demanding cfgs? as far as i know just maxing out the settings in the menu is good enough, plus maybe a bit of dicking around with mat_phong is just fine, i haven't played tf2 in a couple of months so i don't know what any of the christmas maps are like
i feel like that would sorta be cheating when it comes to the game being somewhat demanding

Besides being better looking (much better looking) default settings just aren't good enough nowadays imho

that looks almost exactly the same as normal max settings apart from a stupid viewmodel fov, you're trying to oversell a source engine game from 2007, it won't be on par with crysis or anything lol

unless you're playing tf2c which actually does look super good

Run the 64-bit builds from Betas and ensure you have the following enabled in console. You can set these in autoexec.cfg. It will allow GMod to take advantage of multiple threads on your CPU which may lead to a substantial performance improvement.

Code:
"gmod_mcore_test" "1"
"r_threaded_particles"
"r_threaded_renderables"
"r_threaded_client_shadow_manager"

It's slightly overtuned but what's the point in not overpushing an almost 14 years old game on hardwares that basically bruteforce it?

Also yeah, I prefer TF2C nowadays because It's more optimized and thankfully doesn't have the bot problems

i mean, it's a semi competitive multiplayer game, having it run good is sorta one of the benefits of such a game lol

but we've gone super off topic anyway
