Personally, I've always had a good experience, but what about you all? Do you think scammers have gotten worse (bigger) on eBay and/or PayPal?

I have always viewed eBay as a great marketplace for everyone and I have stuff I want to sell on there as I've done previously, just don't know if I should. Still, there is not much of an alternative (Amazon marketplace feels limited and restricted compared to eBay).

I needed a replacement xbox controller after my last one busted on me, went to search for cabled ones and found one that sold them for quite cheap and seemed legit.
Ended up being a "it's like a real one" kind of deal, and while I was a little pissed, it worked fine and checking the item again showed me that the guy specified it wasn't an official one, tho the title made it seem like it, so guess got scammed anyway and it wasn't one me?
Still, what matters to me is that it works, so, yay I guess.

I've never been scammed through eBay, but only because I'm incredibly discerning when it comes to sellers. Make sure they have really high feedback, good history, good recent feedback, etc. Check every angle of the pictures, cross check them with known bootlegs. So long as you're really particular, you probably won't get scammed.

I have purposefully purchased a China knockoff Switch Pro controller from Amazon. They use the original product boxart and I'm sure tons of people have fallen for it. The bootleg/knockoff/scam problem is 100x worse on Amazon third party imo.

What about communication? Like never answer your questions.

If a seller doesn't respond to a question within 3 days or so, I'd write them off as not worth buying from. I think sellers can even set a custom time frame for when to expect a reply from them.

At the very least, if you've already purchased something and the seller refuses to respond, eBay will usually take your side when disputing the sale.

Would you buy from ebay seller who doesn’t reply to your massages? (100% rating)
If it's an outlet/retailer then chances are they won't reply to you, or they will, and it's just an automated message. However, if it's something serious you'd need to open a claim against them.

Surprisingly, no, not a single time.

I do know someone who fell for the cheap USB keys and SD cards being all fake ones, and it seriously made me smash my face on my desk when I learned they were also reselling those for a profit, unaware they were fake products.

The same person actually asked me to hack a WiiU once, and it did not take me long to find out their cards and keys were junk, and when I pointed it out they tried to put the blame on me for breaking them, and I had to literally run hardware tests in person to prove it was indeed junk.

Needless to say I blacklisted this person from me, since they were also buying and selling games, nothing personal, I did get some really good deals, but I don't feel like getting bootlegs or repros sold as genuine to me, especially since they couldn't tell that a 128gb no name SD Card is fucking scam.

The problem sometimes is that the fakes are sold close to retail so it can be hard to tell until you get the item. At the time I bought the fakes the were around $30. I was trying to buy a Samsung 128gb microSD card.

On Amazon many of the fakes are even Sponsored listings when searching. Beware of 3rd party selling as sometimes they are in the same listing as the real stuff.

I ordered digital Pokemon code from ebay before and I asked them before I buy and they replied to me quickly.

This time the item is physical and %100 rating seller claimed that it is opened but never used ..... I noticed one black dirt so I clicked on contact seller and I asked if this black dot is permanent or cleanable and he never replied to me.

so you can say that this is the second reason for not buying from him right?

Depends on how many sales they had, I stopped using ebay however I ignored questions and messages all the time if they were answered in the ad of a item I was selling and had I missed something I'd just answer it by updating the ad.

If I was getting 20 questions I don't want that buyer, it means buyers remorse, cold feet and potential drama.

IMO the only one getting scammed on ebay anymore is sellers, Returns are nearly universally guaranteed regardless of the stipulations, there are few private sales anymore. It is mostly outlets and business selling in bulk and then a lot of the buyers are hyper aware of the return policies and as a matter of routine are going to start haggling after the purchase threatening your feedback if you don't want to deal with their bullshit.

the seller only sales few items maybe 5 items hehe. Of course I will ask because the item is expensive and I asked one question is that black dot permanent or cleanable?

he also keeps lowering the price it was 400 now it is 316.

In the years I've shopped eBay, I always try to buy only from high-rated sellers. So far, so good... (knock on wood).

Sold a key code for a game and a scammer bought it from me.
After sending the code, the scammer did a chargeback on their creditcard.

PayPal then took the money from my account PLUS a chargeback fee of $30!.
Only afterwards I saw his feedback page was full of people saying you shouldn't sell to this guy because that's what he does.
Apparently you could only leave positive feedback with text, so that's why his rating was pretty high.

Took me 2 months of calling PayPal customer service and sending them screenshots to get my chargeback fee back.
Never got the refund back but better than nothing I suppose.
Also got him banned from eBay, finally.

TL;DR:
Only buy - never sell on eBay anymore.
Scammers paradise.
