Sold a key code for a game and a scammer bought it from me.
After sending the code, the scammer did a chargeback on their creditcard.

PayPal then took the money from my account PLUS a chargeback fee of $30!.
Only afterwards I saw his feedback page was full of people saying you shouldn't sell to this guy because that's what he does.
Apparently you could only leave positive feedback with text, so that's why his rating was pretty high.

Took me 2 months of calling PayPal customer service and sending them screenshots to get my chargeback fee back.
Never got the refund back but better than nothing I suppose.
Also got him banned from eBay, finally.

TL;DR:
Only buy - never sell on eBay anymore.
Scammers paradise.
Had that happen too. eBays policy for digital codes is they have to be mailed so there is a tracking number.

I sold a graphics card on eBay.
Listing made it clear only to north americans
Some guy in Europe buys it and uses a parcel forwarder. Gets it a month later and claim that he received it with a broken fan. He told me that he had a technician open it up to confirm it was a faulty fan and to give him $20 to repair the card. Told him to fuck off with that lying bullshit.
He complained to eBay to claim that I shipped him a faulty product and got his money back.
Only got my money back after I told the representative that he opened up the graphics card which is against their policy and got my money back. Apparently when you dissemble a product you can no longer ask for a refund. They didn't care that he threatened me for $20 or that he used a parcel forwarder.

I have had a seller block me because I contacted them about a gameboy that I bought off of them that was not the same as the one in the picture. The 1 in the picture had a good screen and the 1 i got had what looked like an ink blot in the middle of the screen. The seller did give me a partial refund, but I used to buy alot of cheap gameboys off them to clean, repair and resell to friends that wanted some. Its the reason I have over 12 gameboys.

Personally, I've always had a good experience, but what about you all? Do you think scammers have gotten worse (bigger) on eBay and/or PayPal?

I have always viewed eBay as a great marketplace for everyone and I have stuff I want to sell on there as I've done previously, just don't know if I should. Still, there is not much of an alternative (Amazon marketplace feels limited and restricted compared to eBay).

I always put my credit card on PayPal and bought it from Amazon and eBay. When they approved then I removed my credit card information from my PayPal so it will be empty and no way to steal my information there. I always do that. Thats simple.

Never leave credit cards on PayPal after received anything. Removed it after you got approved of getting anything.

I ordered digital Pokemon code from ebay before and I asked them before I buy and they replied to me quickly.

This time the item is physical and %100 rating seller claimed that it is opened but never used ..... I noticed one black dirt so I clicked on contact seller and I asked if this black dot is permanent or cleanable and he never replied to me.

so you can say that this is the second reason for not buying from him right?

Dirt? Sometimes cameras show a false perception of what was shot.

But, since he never got back to you just move on and ignore. Sellers like those aren't worth yours or anyone's time.

The trick with selling digital codes and making sure you don't get scammed is: Physically ship it with tracking. This way they can't scam you by pretending that the code doesn't work.

What pieces of human garbage they are to use something and then demand money back.

I've fallen for so-called "payday loan" scams where the seller's rating is high and there was lots of original photo of the 3ds console that wasn't grabbed from Google so I went ahead and purchased it. A few days after the estimated delivery date goes by and no communication so I open a case and the seller doesn't reply so I get the money back.

This process took me over 2 weeks (even longer because I had to wait until the delivery date) so it's clear this is the way for people to get cash now and repay it back with no interest several weeks later.

the first thing i ever bought on ebay was a scam, it was an alienware clevo m7700, to this day i haven't found a single listing for one. and when i do it's likely going to be far out of any reasonable budget
dude kept postponing actually sending the item and i had to force a refund via ebay

but ever since then i haven't gotten scammed once, even for super shady japanese dsi listings for $12, or a japanese copy of monster hunter double cross for $3

eBay is transitioning from PayPal to Adyen, as well as other changes for the better (especially for sellers).

Make sure they have really high feedback, good history, good recent feedback, etc. Check every angle of the pictures, cross check them with known bootlegs.

Great advice. I recall I've only ever blocked one buyer because he kept annoying me with spam messages and a negative. I can't even remember why exactly, but I did everything right on my end.

Nope. You can usually spot scams from a mile away. And I don't buy from sellers with bad/no seller feedback, which is a pretty reliable way to avoid scammers. There is a chance that anything could be a scam, but it's unlikely for an account that has sold plenty of legitimate items to suddenly start scamming.
I bought some Etymotic earphones from a 3rd party seller on Amazon one time because the price was so good. But there is a chance that they could be fakes, although they look real enough, the price did seem a bit too good to be true. They sucked anyway (turns out I really don't like "neutral" sound) so I suppose it doesn't matter if they were. Poor quality cable that started fraying quickly. Never had that happen to me with any other headphones. I suppose it's due to the rubber (silicone?) material they used. Anyway, I digress. So I guess that's a "maybe" on getting scammed on Amazon, but most likely not.

I have been accused of scamming though. When I had some OnePlus One invites and tried to sell them off for a few bucks each, a few people thought my $5 listing was for an actual OnePlus One device (because that makes sense...), I had made the title "OnePlus One Invite" and selected the phone from a list which made eBay insert pictures and specs of the actual device, which apparently was a bad idea. Some of them got pretty mad and accused me of scamming etc. It was my first eBay sale, cmon guys, go easy on me :(
Because of that, I had to refund all of them, and the invites expired before I could sell them again, so I only actually sold one, the last one I did, where I put more clearly "INVITE ONLY" in the title, and made the first picture a screenshot of the invite page. That seemed to work.

I once had a seller go the extra mile to scam me by inserting a tracking number that was delivered to the same town I live in. His mistake was that the tracking number was for an envelope of a few ounces whereas the item I bought was several pounds. I had to contact eBay to get this resolved as they initially closed the case as the tracking number showed delivered.
