Now that we have the demo for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, and can analyse the game code. What are the chances we see some Mods for this game when released.

Demo seems really fun and a big improvement over the last release but could do with better resolution (Handheld Mode) also increase framerate if possible.

I hope someone will look into the files of this demo to find contents of the full game (playable character, their artworks...)
It's using KT Engine and version used in Age of Calamity should be in 99% of cases compatible with existing tools that supports Nioh2. Only difference is section dedicated to memory allocation (According to Ganondood from ReSwitched)

All non-demo data is removed or blackened.

ScreenLayout.rdb only contains the 5 playable characters, CharacterEditor.rdb only contains 3D Models from characters and objects used in the demo.

The character description text table has a limit of 250 characters, but only 5 entries are filled,
Code:
Link
001: A skilled swordsman serving the royal family of Hyrule.
Born to a line of imperial guards, he is renowned for his
[cdb]fighting skills and courage.

Zelda
002: The princess of Hyrule, in whose veins flows the blood of
[cdb]the goddess. She is devoted to researching ancient
[cdb]technology and awakening her sacred power.

Impa
008: The adviser to Hyrule's royal family and a revered member
[cdb]of the Sheikah tribe. She is dedicated to her work and
[cdb]known for being steadfast and diligent. She can be
[cdb]distractible at times.

Purah
030: A Sheikah researcher and Hyrule's foremost authority on
[cdb]ancient relics. She is Impa's older sister and Robbie's
[cdb]colleague. She is both brilliant and opinionated, and she
[cdb]tends to get carried away with her research.

Robbie
031: A Sheikah researcher and colleague to Purah who also
[cdb]investigates ancient relics. He is Hyrule's foremost authority
[cdb]on Guardians. While rebellious, he is largely unwilling to
[cdb]stand up to Purah.

So my guess is, there are at least 31 playable characters in the full game or this table is used for all characters playable or not.

Nothing major to discover in this demo.

I don't have any hard numbers but the game definitely feels choppy. Overclocking in docked mode improves the framerate but doesn't bring it up to 60fps. The resolution in handheld mode without overclocking is quite low. I haven't tried overclocking in handheld mode.

We'll probably have to wait for the hypothetical Switch Pro or advancements in Yuzu to get this game running at a locked 60fps and a decent resolution.

A 60 FPS mod might be possible for handheld mode but the resolution will remain low.

Is the game hard capped at 30fps or is it limited by the Switch's hardware? Hyrule Warriors was a 60fps game with dips but it felt significantly smoother than Age of Calamity.

Limited by switch hardware. Given docked mode regularly drops to sub-20fps even with full GPU and CPU overclock, I doubt even handheld mode would be able to reach 60fps, at least with a solid lock.

I've done some further testing and these are my conclusions:

- Without overclocking the game isn't worth playing.

- Overclocked to the max in docked mode is something akin to a cinematic mode.

- Overclocked to the max in handheld mode is something akin to a performance mode. The framerate is very smooth. Resolution and foliage draw distance are low. The art style mitigates the low resolution but there is obvious staircasing in some instances. This is the best option overall.

My conclusions are quite subjective. I am biased towards high framerates and my tests are done by eye. I don't have a good HDMI recorder to analyse the framerate and resolution properly.

After playing this game overclocked to the max in handheld mode my Switch's SOC only warmed up to 46 degrees, whereas other games like The Witcher 3 will bring it up to 60 degrees. This suggests that in handheld mode there is some processing power going unutilised meaning a fan mod to raise the resolution is possible.

Nintendo and Koei Tecmo really nailed the gameplay but botched the performance on this one. I had high expectations because of the excellent performance of Fire Emblem Warriors. Hopefully it will get a performance patch post-launch.

Fire Emblem Warriors's performance was due to it being a 3DS/Switch cross platform game, having to limit its scope to get it to run on 3DS meant there was more overhead on the Switch. This is a pretty common trend with Omega Force games, they'll often release cross platform when new consoles come out, with the new consoles hitting a solid 60fps (see: Dynasty Warriors 6 PS2 vs PS3, Dynasty Warriors 8 PS3 vs PS4), and then as the console gen goes on performance degrades more and more.

Read somewhere that the dynamic resolution only changes when it goes below 24fps and that's one reason the game struggles with max overclock when docked (the resolution rarely drops to achieve 30fps).

Is this hackable?

Maybe the game will run better if AA and other non essential graphics filters are removed/reduced, with an switch Max OC

Now that is released, any chance of getting some 60fps mods maybe with downgraded visuals (AA removed)
