Okay. I own a modded PS3, so multi-platform games are covered. I have the Master Chief Collection on Xbox One, so I've got access to all the Halo games. I have two TSOP'd original Xbox consoles, so the backwards compatibility doesn't mean anything to me. But I still kinda wanna mod one.

My soldering skills are nonexistent. I just ask other people to do soldering stuff for me, and if I'm not wrong, every Xbox 360 exploit requires at least some soldering...

So, what is a usecase I haven't got covered already that a modded 360 would fill?

not every exploit requires soldering. flashing the drive -- I think some might, but a lot don't. multiplat games generally run better on the 360 largely due to the shared ram, which the ps3 doesn't have.

Oh, interesting.

That is a good point, not to mention how much more I like the design and feel of the 360 controller compared to the DualShock 3/SixAxis. But it's also an important point that online multiplayer is free on the PS3 wheras it isn't on the 360, to my knowledge.

can't play online with an rgh unless you want to spend ludicrous sums of money for a stealth service. xlink kai exists for that purpose I believe, but I haven't tried it.

If I didn’t already have a 360, I’d buy an rgh slim. I already had a 360 and I bought an x360usbpro v2 to extract my dvd key for an xk3y that I also bought. It was $110 for both devices. Another $60 for a 369 to mod and you could’ve bought a premade rgh slim. Really, though, what would you want to play? Seems between the ps3, your OG Xbox, and the One you can play everything already. Though, getting a new device is nice. :)

Another good point. I use XLink Kai on my Original Xbox quite often, and it's a great service, but.. Yeah.

That's kinda the point I was making, I've basically got the library pinned down across a few devices. I guess I just have this nostalgia for the 360, and I feel weird if I'm not actively working on a project.

if you like fps, you might like gears of war. that game is only possible on the 360 due to the shared ram issue. someone ported it over to the ps3, but you can only play it on decr systems iirc. I get decr and dech confused, but basically a nonretail system with twice as much ram.

I do love me some FPS games, but God of War never seemed to appeal to me for some reason.

the 360 is also good for shmup games if you like those. I love 'em, but I suck at them. hehe. it has a ton of cave, milestone, and treasure shmup games, almost as many as the dreamcast. how that happened I have no idea, but I thought I heard that sony pissed certain companies off with the ps3. it may have to do with their anti-indie stance, which is what happened with the ludicrous cost of the ps3 dev kits.

That would make sense, considering shoot'em'ups tend to be on Japanese-designed consoles way more often than the American-designed ones.. Anyways. I suck at 'em too, but they are fun from time to time, hehe. I find myself mainly playing puzzle, rhythm, FPS, and sandbox games, with the occasional exceptions, most notably Burnout 3. Fuckin' love that game.

But I'm getting off topic. It seems like modding a 360 is a huge, complicated process, too. Especially trying to find a working fat or a cheap slim.

I don't know if I am quite so down on the multiplat stuff -- the 360 was often enough the lead console with the PS3 an afterthought or "that'll do" even if it had a tiny bit more grunt. Also I like the 360 controller far more than the PS3 one, even more so as the PS3 one cripples my hands after about 5 hours (up from what it was) where I can sit for 10+ on a 360 and not be bothered.

Still it most likely will come down to exclusives, bit sad that such things exist but it is never the less something to have to deal with and both have something to speak of

https://gbatemp.net/threads/ps3-and-360-exclusives-a-discussion.360416/ is a bit outdated, the PS3 getting a handful of late stage ports, some things making to PC in the years since and the PS3 also getting a bit of love from NIS and Atlus on the Japanese RPG front (several of which later made it to the PS4) after I stopped updating that but some of the exclusives if you want to go there. The later NIS stuff might be different (I reviewed a few for here and was frequently impressed) and I am prepared for some to really love Ni No Kuni and fight me accordingly but I will take the 360's RPG library over the PS3's -- MagnaCarta II for instance was one of my favourite of the whole generation.
As mentioned though it is a shmups/shooters machine if you like that sort of gameplay. No idea why really (it is not like the 360 was big in Japan and the hardware is not that similar to arcade boards, or at least not any more than the PS3) but it is what it is and there are some awesome examples of the gameplay style that might not exist on anything else than IOS. Do note the 360 is region locked ( http://www.abgx360.cc/verified.php for what games/versions do what) so make sure you have a JTAG/RGH machine or be prepared to get a Japanese one, simple DVD mods are not region free.

that is an excellent point about it not being region free to hack the dvd drive. I once mentioned that there's an app that can change the region of a 360 game, but the irony is that you need a jtag/rgh to play the game. lol

the system is pretty good, albeit, I never really play mine. I don't play the ps3 either, but I know a lot about both systems. both were mainly for research and testing.

the controller is superior imo to the ps3 one. however, the dpad is definitely horrible. playing a 2d platformer, like mega man, can be difficult that way. I'd have to give the better dpad to sony. however, I think the pro controller on the wii u is the best controller of all time. it has the ergonomic feel of the 360's with the dpad of the ps3 (though it's one button).

I have an RGH360 Dual nand and a Falcon model with a flashed drive. Back then I used to play online with burned dvd games was pretty cool.
I personally dont see any real value of hacking a 360 today as the games themselves are pretty dated or just have less content compared to its current remastered versions also homebrew is literally everywhere. Maybe the hack/mod methods are cheaper than dealing with a switch or jb ps3/ps4. If your into weeb jrpgs then you might wanna consider to look elsewhere the 360 lacks that kind of genre.

I will grant that current "remastered" versions will tend to have all the DLC included, and possible a sequel as well. However I will have to query including anything past about year two (by which time most of the "started out on the xbox" had gone through and people had generally figured out the console) of the 360 in the list. From where I sit only the few things done in cel shading have aged better from older consoles and many times you also got something resembling larger maps, more open maps and the like.

I went back to the original xbox and things were surprisingly dated, N64 and PS1 that was not prerendered background even more so, but graphics wise I would say the PS360 stuff generally holds up pretty well and we usually got a load more content (never mind the mostly lack of microtransactions).

Had you said most things from the era got PC ports at one point or another and they in general or with mods have better graphics that would be a different matter. Likewise what the indy and remaining mid tier devs can get out of the PS4/xbone would have been reserved for EA/Ubisoft/Sony/MS spending all the money back on the PS360 so there is that too but even the PS4bone shiny shiny is not all that much more (plus the lack of content, probably microtransactions and less freedom to mess around).

te sad part is iirc online stealth can be entirely done on the console without a server, the server simply checks to see if you paid by logging your kV, and allows stealth to be active or not

the only reason to rgh or jtag is for modding purposes, homebrew never really took off on the 360, mostly it was used for modding, nowadays 5/10 online games have more than one person with a modded console, many of time i've joined matches on mw2 and somebody already was hosting a lobby, i usually got kicked once they realize it
