Hey guys
I'm on firmware 6.2 and everything working. I just bought a copy of links awakening and it is asking for an update. What shall I do? The serial is xaw10027xxxxxx

Update. Preferably to 8.0.1. Doubt it will need 9.0.0. But before you do so, you should decide wheter or not you care about warmboot. If so, you want to setup autorcm, to meep tour fuses low (to be able to downgrade in the future).
Or you can create and emunand and keep your sysnand on 6.2.0 and never touch it until a warmboot is here.

As Adran_Marit mentioned, use ChoiDujourNX to update your firmware. It is a pretty simple process. On YouTube, search "choidujour update" and use the top video. That is the one I have followed the last 3 times I have updated.

Please be aware that you will want to make a NAND backup (the video I mentioned takes you through this process as well), so just be sure to have at least 32GB free on your SD card if you want to back everything up

So can I downgrade my switch (I don't think I have blown many or even any fuses) to 4.1, set up an Emu NAND and then I can just turn it on and it will boot?

you're on 6.2 so you've already burnt 8 fuses. 4.1 expect only 5
just make emunand now and update the emunand to 8.1

Hekate says "Burnt Fuses (ODM 7/6): 8 - 0" ... So that means 8 fuses burnt, and no downgrade?

Warm boot does sound very appealing.

Im on 6.2 too. I did a backup of my nand before instala cfw. If I update to 8.0.1 with choidujour, in the future can I restore my 6.2 backup that I have? Or I have to downgrade first?

short answer: yes
long answer: you can downgrade but you need to use rcm to boot, so it defeats the purpose of having low firmware for warmboot

you can restore but you need to use rcm on every boot
just use emummc if you want to have newer firmware

I know this is an unrelated question, but what is nogc? and do I want to prevent GC controller update?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Ok I messed up. I thought that I just uppdated the emuNand...but I guess not. It says on normal boot that I'm on 8.1.0 now. Does anyone know what happend? I didn't burn any fuses so can I go back?

Nogc prevents the controller update. If your gc controller version is newer than your system version, (for example 9.0 gc update, 8.1 switch firmware) the switch won't boot without additional hax (or maybe only the gc slot doesn't work? idk.)
The purpose is to allow you (combined with not burning fuses) to use a future exploit that allows you to boot emunand and homebrew from a (likely old) sysnand version.

If you truly didn't burn any fuses you can downgrade. If your sysnand is otherwise perfectly clean, this may increase your ban risk.

Well hekate still says Burnt Fuses (ODM 7/6): 8 - 0, so I think I'm good. I might save the emunand stuff for another day, when a warm boot has been released

Burnt fuses don't matter unless you want to boot OFW. CFW can boot 1.0.0 on a console with fuses burnt for 9.0.0. Doesn't matter. CFW with ChoiDujourNX can downgrade/upgrade to any firmware version, fuses, again, don't matter.

We're likely never getting a coldboot exploit, so stop worrying about fuses, they don't matter.

Nogc prevents the cartridge firmware from updating, not controllers.

If you don't want to burn fuses, upgrade/downgrade with ChoiDujourNX.

^^^

OFW Fuse Behavior

Fuse Count < Expected Fuses - Boot and Burn
Fuse Count = Expected Fuses - Boot
Fuse Count > Expected Fuses - Does not Boot

CFW Fuse Behaviour

Fuse Count < Expected Fuses - Boot
Fuse Count = Expected Fuses - Boot
Fuse Count > Expected Fuses - Boot

Is there any rumors about warmboot any soon?
