You being allergic to chocolate won't stop me from saying it's tasty.
It should stop you recommending it to everyone before vanilla since fewer people are allergic to vanilla.

So I did end up having to restart my computer because the program crash in the non-step-by-step guide that had wrong outdated non-working instructions, and it did take down the USB subsystem in the OS when it crashed. Obviously, I have followed the Kosmos guide before. They also miss critical information which resulted in a similar situation.

Goldleaf0.5 + SD card installs have more or less a guaranteed "light at the end of the tunnel". USB lacks that.
It seems that in order to check the archive flag (called changing an attribute) you need software that allows you to modify attributes of files/folders.
Doing this is part of the OS (expect mac). It does not require 3rd party software. I am not sure which version of Windows you are using so I did not give a step-by-step guide for that part. But it should go something like:
  1. Right-click on the folder
  2. Properties
  3. Advanced
  4. Check the box that says "Folder is ready for archiving"
  5. Click "OK"
  6. Click Apply
  7. Select "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files"
  8. Click "OK"
  9. Click "OK"
That folder now has the archive flag set and Goldleaf 0.5 will recognize that folder as if it was an installable file. The flag can be set before or after copying it to the SD card.

Like what?

And, apparently the only thing you've done is selecting Goldleaf instead of Tinfoil when using the latter, and then restarting your computer.

OP's asked three times how to use your tool and still hasn't done anything. They most likely would have had USB working by now, which is in the long run quicker to set up, way quicker to install games with and has the advantage of not having to deal with the SD card.

As I previously said; to each their own, but you can't deny that USB installs should keep being the main thing over splitting NSPs. There's a reason why that is mostly deprecated nowadays. And USB keeps getting support through Goldleaf.

It is a lot more than 3 times where they have asked questions and they have been provided with step-by-step instructions each time leading to successfully installing NSP files. The last update was for detailed instructions on how to check the right checkbox somewhere for the only edge-case scenario.

As I said in my first post, issues with SD card installs are minor or one time affairs. USB has no guarantee that it will work tomorrow even if it works today or if it can get working at all. Your non-step-by-step guides linked do not work and both contain outdated and factually incorrect information.

I am obviously computer literate if I can recite step-by-step instructions to perform SD Card installations with Goldleaf 0.5 and troubleshoot related issues. However, for USB, for the life of me, I cannot get USB installs to work and you cannot seem to accept that what may be 100% reliable for you may mean 0% reliable for someone else. It does not necessarily indicate that the person attempting it is not computer literate and that lower than Goldleaf 0.5 + SD card success rate does detract from the overall reliability of the method because there are people who have setups that are not compatible with the fragile chain that is USB installs.

If USB installs work for you? Great! But that is not the method that should be taught when someone asks for help for basic NSP installs for the first time. There are various reasons why basic NSP installs will not work and those issues should be sorted out before attempting USB installs because USB installs bring in a lot of extra edge-cases that makes the process unreliable.

Will stop arguing (at least it was a civilized debate, so thanks for that) as it seems we won't reach a conclusion, but I'd like to point something out:
you cannot seem to accept that what may be 100% reliable for you may mean 0% reliable for someone else.
You can find Goldtree on the Goldleaf github, though I would recommend AluminumFoil as it supports multi-installs and is less buggy overall.
They aren't 100% reliable, nothing is lol. Splitting IS more reliable than USB, but the "price"/value comparison puts USB installation at the top, which is why it is more used. That's all I'm saying lol cheers

Sorry to bother, OP, but could you *try* to use USB install? These are the steps:
Thanks, I'll give it a go later today :) yeah I did try USB install, but no luck yet, using goldleaf, nor using goldleaf and aluminium foil, but hopefully will work with tinfoil..!

Be honest, how much are you getting paid to shill?
Yeah I heard Sx OS is not safe anyway, from ninty's radar :/

So why no USB hdd support or emunand June 15 lmao
It is technically not June 15th everywhere around the world but EmuNAND is probably being released soon. HDD support is also being worked on but its not entirely necessary unlike functions such as overclocking which makes certain Retroarch titles not compatible with SX OS or the ability to preserve AutoRCM during system updates to prevent fuses from being burnt. There is also the ability to prevent anything from writing to PRODINFO which is useful for preventing the most notorious bricking tools, PozzNX and Pikabricker. Surprised you didn't list .XCI loading as an SX OS exclusive feature though.

Unfortunately not, sorry. DuckDuckGo/Google can help though.
-Sigh-
So, finally got all my nsps installed via tinfoil. One that I tried earlier worked. Then I got a bunch of new ones from another website. When I try to open any of these new ones, I get the message: "Checking whether this software can be played" followed by "This user cannot play this software. If you have not purchased the software, you can do so from Nintendo eShop" etc.

Before putting on the new nsps, I switched to a new SD card, which I prepared in the way I read in the guides. However maybe I've missed a step in the SD prep?

Any ideas?

Copy them to SD:/atmosphere/kip_patches/fs_patches

Edit: Note that you might also need ES patches as well. Those go in SD:/atmosphere/exefs_patches/es_patches.

However in step 3, "Atmosphere FSS0" does not exist on the menu.

Hey mate, ran into the same problem as you. The hekate_ipl.ini at this website: nh-server github (can't post link since I'm a new member) is correct and working.

1. If you download using Chrome on Android 10 as I did, it will append a .txt extension.
2. When you remove that extension so that it's just hekate_ipl.ini instead of hekate_ipl.ini.txt, it still shows up as a Text Document.
3. The easiest way is to download it again using your Mac or PC. When I did this, it shows up as the type 'Document' instead of 'Text File' on my mac. If it shows up as Text File, even if the contents are correct, it won't work. If you download it and it still shows up as 'Text File', find a 'Document' file or create one and insert the contents of hekate_ipl.ini in there and save. Put this one in your switch.

PS I know this post probably won't help you but I came across it when I ran into this issue. I thought I would reply to help others that may run into the same problem. Modding my switch was a teething process.
