How did you shrink the left panel to only show icons? Maybe the thumbnails are just off screen because the left menu and game titles are taking up my whole screen.

I just said that in my last reply lol. I said...

Also, I noticed in your screenshot that you're not actually browsing the Game Titles, you have move the cursor over to the RIGHT panel to select the Game Titles before the Thumbnails will show up.

I have highlighted a game title and no thumbnail shows up on the right. So I take it you didn't change any settings to make the left panel and the game titles slimmer?

No, if RA detects a Thumbnail then it will show it automatically. That's assuming that you have the Thumbnails turned ON in the Settings, which I also described where to check in my other post.

I had a question about romhacks and Mupen64Plus,

I was able to get SM64 romhacks to load, and the Ocarina of Time Randomizer DOES work correctly.

I tried 3 SM64 romhacks (Shining Stars 3, Star Revenge 4.5 and Last Impact), none of them load past the title screen. So I'm unsure if there's anything I can do to get them to load but it might have something to do with the fact that on PJ64, to get most rom hacks to run, you have to change the "Max Memory Size" ( I believe thats what it's called) from 4 MB to 8 MB. I do not know if there is a similar option in Retroarch using the Mupen 64 Plus core, so If someone could provide me with any info it would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, it was turned on. Actually it's on by default. But I've turned them on and off no dice.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

It could be that they are using an older build or stable 1.7.6.

I think the thumbnails feature for ozone was added in March - https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/pull/8444

This could be the reason.

I have almost the same issue here... My Thumbnails only show up if I load Mupen64Plus-Next core before (by launching a n64 game or the "load core" section). Then, with that core loaded, i can see all my thumbnails (n64, snes, etc). But if no core loaded, or another like snes9x 2010, then thumbnails won't show up anymore...

Interesting. Could you guys try that whole thumbnail issue with another theme (like XMB) as well? Seems to be an Ozone issue as everything's working fine in XMB for me.

I’ve tried with XMB and thumbnails show up perfectly, whatever core is selected. Yes you’re right it seems to be due to Ozone...

XMB works fine for me also which is what I use because I like having the same interface across all the devices I use RA on. But when I switch to Ozone it still works fine also. But then again I'm on the latest Nightly so that could be why.

Works fine in XMB. Looks like it's an issue with Ozone. In addition, actually having the thumbnails named exactly like the .zip files doesn't work. They need to be named like the playlist buddy app named them so it was right all along.

Do you have cores without thumbnails by chance? I had a bug where it wouldn’t load images if the previous core didn’t had the thumbnail set properly.

Is there a work around for this? I tried to switch over to ozone tonight but ran into this problem as well. Xmb no issue

Not sure if I'm misunderstanding what you mean, but if by ".zip" files you mean the filename of your ROM, then YES the thumbnail MUST be exactly the same as the ROM. Not kind of the same, but EXACTLY the same! The only exception to this is for certain "illegal" characters such as &*/:`<>?\| that you must use an underscore "_" instead.

Yeah, the workaround is to UPDATE your RetroArch to the latest Nightly build. Problem solved.

I have read that and understand but what I'm telling you is that after I created the MAME playlist with that app in the OP, naming the thumbnails exactly as the ROM filename (minus the .zip of course) DIDN'T work. The thumbnails had to be named exactly like the names in the playlist for them to show up. For example dkong.zip is the ROM. I changed the thumbnail to 'dkong.png' but it didn't work. I had to change it to 'Donkey Kong (US set 1).png' for it to work. I don't know how all that works together but during my troubleshooting I renamed thumbnails to the rom names and they didn't show up (yes under XMB where they do normally work). I had to change them back to the names given by the playlist.

Question, what is the proper way to update RA so maybe I can get the thumbnails working under Ozone? Also, is there a xml/dat file somewhere for SNES games so I can generate a playlist for those?

Arcade roms (FB Alpha and MAME) are the only exception.
Not only do the roms have to stay in the name you "got" them (like dkong.zip) in order to work, also thumbnails and cheats are named after their "official scene release name" (let us call it like that).
In most cases you are fine, when you look for a complete rom set with a dat file which you then use with Playlist Buddy.
Then you either download the thumbs from within RetroArch or here or here.
On that last link you can also browse the git repo and look how specific games need to be named.
