Borderlands 3 announced, developer trailer shows off footage

Gearbox has finally announced Borderlands 3. A nearly four minute trailer gives us our very first look at the game, some characters, the graphics, and more. Gearbox hasn't revealed the platform or release date of the game, but they're again promising more information at a later date: April 3rd. The last Borderlands game prior to this was The Pre-Sequel, which launched all the way back in 2014.

Also announced at PAX East was Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, which will launch on the above date, and is the original game with visual upgrades and all DLC included.

Earlier today, developer Gearbox Software, in partnership with publisher 2K, officially kicked off “The Year of Borderlands” by confirming Borderlands 3 during its panel at PAX East and debuting the very first gameplay footage in an extended trailer for the long-awaited continuation of the blockbuster franchise.

Also during the panel, Gearbox announced:

  • A brand new remastered edition of the original Borderlands called Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition will launch on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on April 3.
  • A free Ultra HD Texture Pack for Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on consoles, as well as Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Borderlands 2 on PC, will also launch April 3.
  • All Borderlands 2 DLC will be added to Borderlands 2 VR for PlayStation VR for free this summer.

damn right we do :D but as i said... dust off... means .. havent used it in month cuz i am motionsick... and spaceproblems right now

So...maybe don't use if it makes you sick?

Not a lot, there are plenty of newer/updated VR HMDs. Valve might even be entering that hardware space soon, but you know how Valve Time™ is. We should at least be hearing about a release date for their knuckles controllers this year, if nothing else.
I found them to be a bit too pricey IMO

When you consider the price of a standard display, they're quite reasonable. You can always wait for Black Friday or other sales to get them even cheaper, too.

i personally used it for the VR only titles... and i dont want to sell it... cuz maybe i can use it for greater games in the near future
Yeah the trend now is to add VR support to full flatscreen games. No Man's Sky is adding it through an update coming in summer. You can play Doom 1-3, Heretic, and Hexen in their entirety in VR, as well as any mods. Redout, Rez Infinite, House of the Dying Sun and Thumper all support VR too. Oh...and Payday 2!

I'm kinda waiting for more info on the HTC vive
Cosmo. I like the fact that the newer version headsets now don't require the base station witch will cost more overall for the best experience.

Yeah, personally I'd rather have the most accurate possible tracking, but it does add a bit to the overall cost. Version 2 base stations will be out soon, and the version 1s should become cheaper as a result.

After the teaser trailer the other day I felt underwhelmed, but this new trailer? I about lost my goddamn mind with how good it looked, even with the technical problems and jittery video. Kinda sad that Borderlands and Handsome Collection aren't coming to Switch, but the new UHD packs are more than enough to make up for it IMO.

I'm not holding my breath for this release - not because I don't want Borderlands 3 or something, but more because AAA gaming industry is riding the "live-service" bandwagon to hell and back, and knowing Gearbox, they'll most likely try to hop in too, especially considering how well Borderlands fits the live-service mold in its concept. Speaking shortly, there's a huge chance that we'll get some unrewarding online-only mess with story mode being diluted by repetitive missions, microtransactions and leveling requirements - something akin to Anthem or Destiny.

Anyone know if splitscreen is confirmed? That was always a major factor that kept Borderlands, in my view, above other shoot-and-loot games like Destiny, The Division, and Anthem.
