Hi,

I've been wanting to update to the latest switch firmware, but I am doubting the best way to do so.

I created a backup when I was on v4.1.0 and than updated to v5.1.0 with exFAT upgrade via Nintendo servers. By booting immediately into SX OS, I've always made sure that I could still downgrade to 4.1.0.

Available to me
- Switch on v5.1.0 with exFAT on SX OS v2.5.2
- NAND Back-up on v4.1.0 (almost clean, only used xci a few times)

Preferred end-state
- SysNAND v7.1.0 with exFAT with which I could go online
- EmuNAND on SD v7.1.0 with exFAT for xci games with SX OS latest.

But what is the best way to upgrade to v7.1.0? Is it better to downgrade to 4.1.0 because of the almost clean NAND? Or is it better to just upgrade from 5.1.0, reset and hope for the best? I see a few options:

Option 1
- Downgrade to 4.1.0.
- Reset system
- Create EmuNAND on 4.1.0
- Update SysNAND to 7.0.1
- Update EmuNAND to 7.0.1

Option 2
- Downgrade to 4.1.0.
- Reset system
- Update SysNAND to 7.0.1
- Create EmuNAND on 7.0.1

Option 3
- Reset system
- Create EmuNAND on 5.1.0
- Update SysNAND to 7.0.1
- Update EmuNAND to 7.0.1

Option 4
- Reset system
- Update SysNAND to 7.0.1
- Create EmuNAND on 7.0.1

Is it wiser to update SysNAND via Nintendo Servers or via ChoiDujourNX?

What is the best option in your opinion? How did you do this?

Simple to update to 7xxx
You will need to do it with ChoiDujour.
Download the latest ofw (do a Google search).
And with Choi you can update and then go back to what ever you was doing.

I am on 7.0.1 with sxos / atmosphere 0.8.6.
I think it's better to update rather than downgrade.

I guess your current 5.1.0 NAND is not clean so:
1) Restore clean 4.1.0 NAND
2) Update SysNAND from 4.1.0 to 7.0.1 with official system update
3) Create EmuNAND

Now you can use SysNAND online and EmuNAND offline for backups. Of course if you update SysNAND with system update, fuses will be burned up to 7.0.1.

I've installed NSP update on my 5.1.0 NAND, so I asume it's a lot less clean than 4.1.0 on which I launched some xci's. Of course, there is always a ban risk. Right now I can't use the internet anyway.

Thank you for the warning. I'm okay with the fuses. I know there still is hope for an untethered CFW, but right now I'm prioritising a EmuNAND above maybe one day using CFW untethered. I don't mind connecting via USB first :)

Thank you for your reply. If I was just updating, I would indeed use this method. :) However, I really would like a SysNAND and a EmuNAND so I can go online again.

I think no one has been banned yet for using clean SysNAND online and EmuNAND offline. As long as Nintendo doesn’t search for EmuNAND there won’t be a problem. Especially using hidden partition.
