Konami will be releasing anniversary collections for Castlevania and Contra

Though Konami may not be releasing influential classics at the same pace as a few decades ago, players will be able to relive some of those experiences once more, through three upcoming compilation packs. Contra: Anniversary Collection, Castlevania: Anniversary Collection, and Anniversary Collections: Arcade Classics have all been revealed as a celebration of Konami’s 50th anniversary.

Each game will offer the following in their respective bundles.

Castlevania: Anniversary:
  • Castlevania
  • Castlevania II: Belmont’s Revenge
  • Castlevania: Dracula’s Curse
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Four mystery games

Contra Anniversary:
  • Contra
  • Super Contra
  • Super C
  • Contra III
  • Four mystery games
Arcade Anniversary:
  • Haunted Castle
  • Twinbee
  • Thunder Cross
  • Typhoon
  • Gradius
  • Gradius II
  • Life Force/Salamander
  • Scramble
Each package will also come with a special eBook that includes developer secrets and character designs that have never been revealed to the public. The first of the games to release will be Anniversary Collections: Arcade Classics, which will be available on April 18th, and will cost $19.99. The other two games will follow up later this summer. You’ll be able to buy all three as digital-only releases for Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

Why would they add either of those games to the collection when they just released both of them together for a tiny duo of games?
While you might be right there, Castlevania Requiem didn't have a release on the Switch.
Still though, since those did release in other systems, and the Collections seem to be multi-platform, then that's less of a reason for Konami to add those two into the Castlevania Collection.
Hence my words "if the planets align". It's very unlikely that will happen. :P

We might as well get Vampire Killer from the MSX in the Collection already.

As Gradius Rebirth isn't listed for the Arcade collection I doubt we'll see any of the wiiware Rebirth titles on any of these ...as sad as that makes me.

Well none of the Rebirth games are listed, but there is 'mystery games' still! There is hope!

Of course Sony didn't reveal all of the games for the Playstation Classic right away and we can see how that turned out :(

mystery games will be like weird titles that never were very famous or important imo, kinda like kid Dracula and such.

I thought Simon's Quest was ridiculed for being too vague/hard?

It was some what hard, at least until you reach Dracula, then you can pretty much close your eyes, mash buttons for a second or two, then you win. :)

What held this game back for the most part was the poor translation, unless you knew how to read Japanese, you pretty much had to rely upon Nintendo Power (or the internet today) in order to complete it as I don't think anyone could guess their way through some of it without it. Thankfully though there are two rom hacks/translations out that that not only fix the translation, but also add options to make the game a tad bit more fair, and also speed up the night to day, day to night transitions. With such rom hacks available, Castlevania II becomes the game it should have been; a classic style Castlevania, with RPG ala Symphony of the Night elements. Like Zelda II, I can not say enough about this game and sorely wish it would get remade.

There are also hacks available to modernize the control scheme in the 1st three Castlevanias which are worth checking out!!!

This is what I was thinking. Maybe that terrible arcade Dracula game. Basically garbage. If Castlevania 64 ends up on there, I'll die, but it would seem a fitting choice.

It's just embarrassing to have a Castlevania collection without Dracula X or SotN, let alone any of the Igarashi titles.

Wish they would release all 2 Castlevania collections from NES to PS3 for Switch. It will be perfect and awesome. Sighing. I will wait for 4 more mystery about it before I get it.

Right, these fix the original, but the original game is just...IDK, hasn't aged well IMO. Hope SOTN is included.

I wouldn't expect Graduis Rebirth to be in an Arcade Collection since it wasn't ever an arcade cabinet.

You may like it with this + one of the above mentions rom hacks.

If not, then no, maybe these older Castlevania titles are only for a certain crowd. SOTN on the other hand, SHOULD be on here, as should Rondo of Blood, the GBA trilogy, and the DS trilogy, with tweaks and updates to make each run well on modern systems. This is just lazy.

SOTN and Rondo of Blood have already been rereleased last year on PS4 as part of the Castlevania Requiem collection. Honestly, they would just have to port that to other consoles but we know how difficult Konami is :P

I blame my cynicism I suppose, I've never been a real fan of the older Castlevania games, but I do like the ones on Snes as well as the music from Haunted Castle *shrug* sorry =/

And I think exclusivity is BS for this

n64 ports will never be easy work, writting an n64 emulator that runs those games would need to be an actual thing and not a random extra, because not even nintendo has an n64 emulator released on the switch so i doubt they would do one themselves for a measly extra, its too much work imo.

that said i would buy a complete collection hands down, no idea why they dont make castlevania complete collection and put all games in there even if they had to split the collection into 2 volumes like megaman one and such, same for contra.

Serious even nintendo is bad at this, there are so manny game series that would do good collections and it just seems they dont want to make money like paper mario collection and such.

It would require actual, conceited effort on the dev's part. Digital Eclipse wrote a PS1 and PS2 emulator for the Mega Man X Anniversary Collection, but Konami would never have the uh, stones to do that.
