Idk if I should care about fuses?
This is just all too confusing for me.
ALL i care about is a working switch CFW and OFW.

I got a nandbackup but its from way back when i bought it.

Right now fuses don't matter as you said since you won't likely be downgrading. And even if you had to, it's always possible to CFW since the sleep bug has been addressed.
People prefer to keep their fuse count low for potential CFW benefits like coldboot (supposedly for 1-3 FW).
If all you care about is the ability to boot OFW and CFW on the latest firmware, your best option is to stay on the latest FW supported by CFW (6.2 as of today).
Yeah: Also keep using Choixdujour to update if you don't mind about Autorcm.

I feel like the fuse issue has become overblown. If you dont want to ever downgrade your OFW, then the fuses just dont seem to matter. Really the only reason for saving them at all is for the off chance that MAYBE a cold boot get created that happens to only work with a specific lower FW. And whos to say it isnt gonna be FW 3.0? or 1.0? So a 4.1 switch would still be having to use CFW to bypass fuses. And even IF you did have the 3.0 or 1.0 switch you'd still be using CFW to play homebrew which would still bypass the fuse check. So in short, why does anyone give a crap about fuses for downgrading?

downgrading is totally useless in my opinion and cold boot is something not coming any time soon and across the forms i see people trying to protect fuses for no logical reason by updating via choidujournx and then ending up with a bricked console.

Choixdujour does not brick your console. Why would you say that?

updating with choidujourNX doesn't brick the console nor does downgrading.

when downgrading you need to restore boot0/1 and if you don't have them you need to generate them

what is the benefit of lower firmware and lower fuse count?
There is an expectation that one N fixes hole in its hardware warm boot will be released for fw 4 and lower. Issue is as we might be talking about years here, and I am not sure that constant controlled bricking of console in autorcm for years is such a great idea.

4.1 is warmboot compatible at the moment and other higher firms are been worked on... only the current chain was closed, that doesn't mean the new chain won't work

As for the autoRCM issue, no more dangerous than sticking a paperclip in your switch
