Netflix claims that Fortnite is one of its biggest competitors

netflix-logo.png

When it comes to digital streaming, Netflix is one of the largest contenders, being one of the most well known services of them all, managing to reach a massive $16 billion dollars in revenue last year. Netflix tends to vie for consumer's money and time against the likes of Hulu or HBO, or even YouTube, but according to a new earnings report, there's an even bigger enemy to the company; Epic Games' insanely popular video game Fortnite. In the document, Netflix stated that, "we earn consumer screen time, both mobile and television, away from a very broad set of competitors. We compete with (and lose to) Fortnite more than HBO". The company appears to be considering not only subscription numbers, but also how often its users watch content, with Netflix earning about 10% of all viewed television content, and even less when it comes to mobile, which Fortnite tends to dominate in. Despite the gap in both products, Netflix views a free mobile game as more of a stronger competitor rather than other paid television services, showing just how much of a titan that Fortnite has become since its launch.

Saying Netflix competes with Fortnite mobile is like saying Netflix competes with Facebook, or books, or family picnics, or any single thing in life other than watching Netflix.

I played Fortnite once at my cousin's place and thought that it's a good game but not for me. For over a year I didn't see or hear anything about the game. Now the game gets so much attention I can't fucking avoid it.

quite possibly the dumbest comment I have ever read
It's certainly a controversial subject. For example, it's considered unacceptable in today's Hollywood for a Caucasian actor to play a character of another race (whitewashing), but perfectly acceptable for any race or gender to play a Caucasian character. What was once an unfair bias toward all non-Caucasions is now a bias toward them. IMO, the only fairness is fairness itself. Flipping the script is just the original bias in reverse. We can certainly do better than that and I believe we will, in time.

People saying Netflix is trash...may I ask why? The pricing sure is when it continues to rise, but do you have a specific reason as to why beyond maybe that or what? Maybe its restrictions on countries?

I wouldn't call it trash.

However, as a cord cutter, I'm always leery about price hikes. People like me always look for bang-for-the-buck deals, so when taking into account Netflix's price hike in the face of a considerable loss of content, it's just not the same service I originally signed up for, which is why I'll be cancelling it.

Both Fortnite and Netflix are trash. They can compete and beat each other up for all I care.
At least there is some quality to Netflix, Castlevania being a great exanple. What quality is there to Forttrash...ya, that's what I though. Nothin.

Some of you think Fortnite is bad. I used to camp spawns in Everquest for hours on end back in the day. Fight mob. Sit down and meditate for 5 mins. Mob respawns, so get back up and fight mob again.

Sit down again.

Nah, they aren't even a streaming service. No competition.
It quite literally is in the sense that people who could be watching Netflix are instead playing fortnite. Of course you could say that about just about anything else as well, but that just means Fortnite is the thing the average Netflix user spends the most time on, apparently.
