Self or external powered?4 TB Seagate Extern is running well. with 5.1 SX OS 2.3 beta.
Talking about self powered drives! but thnxMy external powered seagate 4-5-6tb drives all work with sx os
Okay lol ofc that would work. Im looking for people trying higher sizes. Like atleast 3, 4 or 5 terabyte on selfpowered drives.64GB pny usb3.0 stick working fine
Self powered? I dont think so. biggest 2.5 inch hdd is 5 TB i have seen.ive seen reports of 8TB
@WiiuGold
the one i use is 8TB ... with over 1,400 games on it ..for the switch . here are the drives work , ones i tested
Seagate Backup Plus 5TB Portable External Hard Drive USB 3.0, Blue + 2mo Adobe CC Photography (STDR5000102) I even try , 2TB 4TB All Work! Seagate Game Drive Hub for Xbox 8TB Storage With Dual USB Ports (STGG8000400) Work Seagate Expansion 8TB Desktop External Hard Drive USB 3.0 (STEB8000100) Works
Any external drive size should work fine within the latest 2 sxos updates. Im using an external 8TB Desktop Seagate expansion for both my Switch and jailbroken PS4
Self powered as in plugin into the wall outlet? Yes we can read, but it doesn't hurt to actually research on the devices we are telling you that works Fact of the matter here is that most 3.0 drives are self powered anyway the capacity size shouldn't have any impact on that. Things get abit more dicey with portable play with a HDD b/c then you need to have it connected directly to the Switch's bottom USB-C port at all times definitely wont be a pleasing experience to say the least might aswell go SD card for better portabilityIt seems not many care to read carefully.. I understand that Big drive support is added with the last SXOS updates you are right.
But as I have clearly stated every post (eventhough i edited it in after the first couple post)
Please state wether this is an EXTERNAL POWERED or SELF POWERED device.
The point of this topic is. I never use my Switch in docked mode. So I need an HD for portable gaming mode.
And I need to find out the max size that is compatible with that. Technically any size should work, yes.
But realisticly. there may be different power requirements as to having bigger harddrives. This is why I ask if anyone has had experience with 2.5 inch self powered HDD devices with SX OS and the switch. Because while externally powered harddrives may work fine. Self powered devices of high storage capacity are perhaps a whole other story?
Or it may not.. Thats what im trying to find out here.

Yes my 8TB Seagate plugs into a wall and runs just fine in dock mode. Before the massive update most ppl were using self powered 2TB drives with Y cables I don't see why a 5TB wouldn't work the same wayWith self powered I mean. powered by the USB port of the switch.
And no it doesn't hurt at all to mention what works. Just feels like, people think they are helping, and other people think im then helped, and then I don't end up getting the info I actually need you see..
I disagree it's not an issue at all to have a HD connected in portable mode.
Sure microSD would be better. But then you'd have to sacrifice space. Which is not want I want.
I find space more important then a drive i will stick to the switch, or lay on a table next to me as I play.
Uhh really? That sucks bro. Wonder what you did wrong. maybe wrong connector? Is your switch fine?I had a 80GB/500GB one saddly something corrupted both so bad their unrecoverable not only that the connector I used is fried and trashed (literally saw it smoking and heard circuits frying)
