Has anyone tried reporting it to Nintendo?
Pretty sure they can sue whoever made it for distributing malware, as well as distributing counterfeit software. And they would have motivation to do so considering people DLed the counterfeit software instead of buying the game, and those who were gonna buy it anyway, or might've bought it upon their pirated copy not working, have been given reason not to now that their Switch is bricked.

Because some people download leaked versions of games they already preordered to play it early. Why keep the preorder if you don't have a working Switch anymore?
And it certainly doesn't convince pirates to stop pirating after shelling out for a new Switch.

Riiiiight. And i'm the tooth fairy.
You act like pirates don't pay for any games. I preordered pokemon moon back when that was coming out, and played it early via the leaked rom before transferring the save over to my cart when it arrived on release day. I even have the Amazon order details I can give you if you don't believe me. It's really not that fantastical of an idea that most pirates do buy at least a few games.

Reporting it to Nintendo after downloading the ROM wouldn't be a good idea while non-CFW users and legit customers either don't know or don't care.
Still, you bet that Nintendo's closely and constantly monitoring the scene so they definitely know already, but I doubt they'll take action. Why go against someone who's taking out systems you don't want to have around?

Still doesn't matter. Even if it's for playing it early its still piracy until you have the game. So again nintendo really has no actual reason to care. Any person doing console hacking for any system should know full and well to make and keep a backup of important data like nand. It's not nintendo's fault people installed software to their system that is not authorized by Nintendo. That's like trying to make Microsoft pay for your computer because you installed malware and ruined it

They lose software sales from people who can no longer play the game they preordered. And considering how easy it is to exploit a Switch in the first place, there's probably kids nagging their parents for Let's Go, see something online saying they can get the games for free and then follow steps that brick their console. You're assuming everyone who wants free games that are marketed at children on a system that is marketed at children is an adult who knows right and wrong and what they're doing.

And if Nintendo doesn't care, why do they even bother with system stability patches? To fix the Switch's terrible kickstand?

And when did I say anything remotely comparable with Microsoft paying for your computer? I'm talking about companies suing people who release malware for their systems, which would be more comparable to Rockstar suing cheat software distributors.

I can guarantee a child is not going to easily figure out how to do this. Heck many people that are older than that have difficulties getting everything set up, let alone a child, so that point isn't really a valid one imo.
And what nintendo will lose here in sales is a drop in the bucket compared to overall sales and the sales lost from piracy anyway.
Console hacking is a very niche thing, and is an extremely small percentage.
And I don't know about you, but I've never just run into console hacking explanations randomly on youtube or Google. Pretty sure a kid won't either.
