Nintendo adds Labo support to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, announces second Labo contest

Nintendo Labo's controversial and excited pre-release turned into quiet discussions shortly after its official release on April 27 of this year. Now, Nintendo's putting the spotlight back onto its cardboard creations with two new announcements. The first of which is that the Labo is now compatible with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, letting players race by using the Toy-Con motorbike handle.

Secondly, a new Creator's Contest has been revealed, which will be starting on July 19. Nintendo wants players to create a musical instrument or gaming experience with Labo, and have them submit their project via YouTube and send the video in.

Create an instrument using craft materials and Toy-Con Garage—whether it’s based on a real instrument or one straight from your imagination.
Entries will be judged partly on their sound, so why not show off your work by playing a Nintendo melody?

  • Toy-Con creations will be judged on the following criteria: Quality, Creativity, Spirit, and Sound. For more information, read the official rules.
  • Submit a YouTube video in which you show and describe your completed instrument.
  • Use only the tools found in the Toy-Con Garage mode to set up the Toy-Con project’s functionality.
  • Be sure to include your project screens from Toy-Con Garage mode in the video.
  • You can use any craft materials you like and/or cardboard included in either of the Nintendo Labo kits.
  • Nintendo staff may follow up to validate your entry.

The winner of the contest will receive a limited Nintendo Switch system with a special paint design that looks cardboard-like in appearance. Four runner ups will get Joy-Cons that share that same design. Competition ends on August 20.

thats just aweful...
they probably saw the popularity of everything with the word "labo" in it rising up, not realizing that it was because people hate the idea

Actually I haven't seen that much hate for Labo, definitely some disappointment but most people seemed pleasantly surprised by it from what I saw

If you already have a Switch to enter the contest with, why would you need a second one?

No thanks I don't wanna have to turn my head every 2 seconds to race. That seems very annoying how the screen turns also.
