Gaming Stuck Between Super Mario Odyssey and Legend of Zelda: BotW?

Hi guys! SOOO my Switch is coming in next week and I'm a HUGE Fire Emblem fan and I've already bought FE: Warriors (yes, I know the reviews aren't that great but I'm going to play it anyway)

However, I want to buy a second game and I'm now stuck between Super Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild. I love RPGs in particular, but I decided I want to try either one of these games because they have such good reviews. Considering I'm a Fire Emblem fan (with a love for old medieval focuses), which one do you think I'd like more?

EDIT: I also don't care for grinding, as I've put over 180 hours into Fire Emblem: Fates (Conquest) and I'm going to get Xenoblade Chronicles 2 as well someday.

Get both.

They are 2 different types of game.
Both are good 3D action adventures with an emphasis on collecting.
But..
Mario is heavy on the reflexes and platforming in limited playspaces.
Zelda is heavy on the exploration of a huge map and strategic planning of how to reach certain goals.

Your collection and experience as a Switch owner is incomplete if you only get one.

Sounds like you'll like Zelda more, cause you can fight things. Neither is anything like FE though.

I'd lean towards Zelda, especially if you haven't played it. In my opinion, it's a better game than Odyssey and you'll definitely get more play hours out of it as Odyssey is rather on the short side for the main story (albeit the extra moons will take you a fair while).

i'd suggest mario.
zelda is more of an exploration game TBH and the reviews make this very clear. the game map is empty. it's void of things to do and you have to use your imagination to create things to do. mario on the other hand, is more engaging and very interactive. playing zelda, you will find yourself traveling vast maps with nothing in it for hours and hours and then you will probably find some nice monsters to kill that drop nice loot and/or some nice landscapes...

if you want a traditional rpg thou, i'd suggest you just get xenoblade 2 which you are planning to get.

I'd take Super Mario Odyssey. It depends on what type of games you like more. But in the end both games are great and I think you can't really go wrong with any of these.

I vote BOTW. It is a much longer game so somebody into RPG's like me can easily enjoy it for 100 hours or more if you try to complete everything. While in comparison SMO was beaten by one of my friends in one afternoon.

in mario, if you take it slow, you'll spend about 30 hours playing most missions and you can easily play for an hour or just 10 minutes and get something done.

in zelda, you'll often feel like 'just 5 more minutes' 'just up that one hill to see if there's something' and then its 3 hours later.

you really can't make a mistake with either game, but zelda has you in for the long ride while mario is short term fun.

Would you like a digital copy of one of them? If so, pick one. BotW is about twice the download size of Odyssey, so you might prefer to get a physical copy of that unless you have a large microSDXC.

Go for Mario. Zelda was quite disappointing with the lame shrines instead of dungeons. A lot of running around with pockets of enemies scattered here and there.

If I had to choose between Mario and Zelda, I would take Zelda, it's amazing game, not that Mario is bad, but I just like Zelda a lot more.

BOTW will last you a lot longer than Mario and has such a vast area to explore, in fact half the game is exploration. You can get lost in the landscape at times it's that big and it makes you appreciate what Nintendo were able to pull off.

Go with botw, the game is more bang for your buck. Odyssey is a fun game but too damn short unless you go for every moons and collectibles, but if you're going through the levels and never cared about collecting stuffs then the game is just 10-15 hours at best.

If you like RPG and you will get Xenoblade 2 anyway, and you don't mind to wait another 3 weeks, then get Octopath Traveler.
Mario is really fun game but short, around 15 to 30 hrs.
BOTW is great for explorations and the freedom to go anywhere you want, but the story sux and the ending is like a slap to your face.

I'd say Mario ...
got Zelda, played it for ~3 hours and put it away as it sucked bad for me :/ optically it is awesome but the controls are realy bad in my opinion and the whole thing is just boring, not my cup of tee. The whole braking down of weapons is very annoying too, you get a good weapon think "wow now I am invincible" then you see a monster hit it three times and the weapon is broken leaving you to use a branch or whatever junk you have left.
