Use Command Prompt?

lis is not recognize as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
They're not standalone programs but features of diskpart, so start a command line (as administrator) and run "diskpart" first :)

Of course be careful to don't get the disk number wrong! :)

I did it before you said it, lol.

Yeah, I am aware of it.

DiskPart successfully formatted the volume.

Now what?

Ps3 will not read Usb that is formatted as gpt even if its fat32 or ntfs with multiman. GPT would be for newer pcs ps3 needs then in MBR format. On Windows open cmd run diskpart then on the diskpart command line run list disk if the GPT field has a * it needs to be changed. In the diskpart window run:
Sel disk # (where # is the disk number)
Clean
Convert mbr
Format fs=fat32 quick
Exit
Then your usb will work with the ps3

the program you want is diskpart on command prompt
so input these commands (in order)
diskpart
list disk (not the disk # of your usb tip your active hdd is ALWAYS disk 0)
select disk X (replace X with the USB disk number you noted in the last step)
clean (erases everything on the selected disk)
convert mbr (this converts your usb to mbr)
create partition primary
format fs=fat32 (I normally type quick after fat32 depending on your computers speed it'll do a full format quickly for a full format don't type quick)
assign (this assigns a drive letter to your fat32 partition)
and there you have it it should work unless your usb is defective

for mac open launch pad and the "other" folder and click on disk utility
(on sierra or newer) click the drop down menu on the upper left of the icon bar (where partition erase etc is) and check "show all devices"
click the entire disk (parent) not the partition (child)
click erase and a popup should appear next select MS DOS(FAT) as the format and change the partition scheme from GPT to MBR and click erase
done

What size USB drive are you using? What do your folder paths look like? Should be:
[Root of USB] > PS3 > UPDATE > PS3UPDAT.PUP

Double check that you don't have any typos in your folder structure by accident, make sure you don't have a disk in the drive as this has been known to cause problems too, and try both USB ports. Finally try to redownload the update file as it may have corrupted. If none of that is the issue use diskpart again but this time instead of the line "Format fs=fat32 quick" just put "Format fs=fat32" without quotes obviously (this may take a while). I once had to do a full format rather than a quick to fix a drive so this may help. Otherwise you might want to try a different drive.

i'm using a HP 2GB flash disk formatted to fat32....i removed the hard disk and tried putting in another one but since it didn't work I decided to return the one i've been using and it said data is corrupted i have no idea what the problem is again...
Btw i've also tried the procedure on a Sandisk Cruzer Blade 16GB still no luck and on a 16GB Toshiba SD Card still no luck...
I've downloaded the update data 4 times..2 from US playstation store...1 from UK and the other from Asia just to be sure region wasn't the problem but none of them worked and the flash disks are working fine so i'm sure that isn't the problem

Hello!
I am havig this same issue! when I goto disk part list disk etc etc.. my usb woulnt show up there. I was abble to format it as FAT32. Now I see that it also needs to MBR? when I goto properties I dont see where I can find this information out. Here is a screen shot.

Here is a screen shot of the issue in list disk.. my thumb drive is only 3.74 gb see the third screen shot.
I have tried turning rebooting the ps3 while the usb is plugged in. I think I have tried it without the disk in it too.

How do I tell if it MBR? Maybe thats all the problem is?
Thank you all so much for the help.

I was having the same problem of my PS3 no reading any of my USBs and this did the trick for me. Now I can install packages and rap files again, thanks!
