Its so fucking weird how history just repeats itself over and over. We just went through this with the 3ds. Shit, I remember this debate 20 years ago with n64 and psx.

It's because people are obsessed with keeping a system around that conflates commodity with utility in their concept of "value". It's not good enough for something to be useful or fun or have utility. It has to be rare, it has to be hard to obtain.

That's why piracy is hated. Because people forget that the real enemy is the thing that puts the gun to the head of these developers and says, "YOU BETTER PAY OR ELSE THEY'LL LOSE EVERYTHING! KEEP IT HARD TO OBTAIN OR THEY'LL STARVE TO DEATH! DON'T TRY ANY FUNNY BUSINESS!" We all just forget that the gunman is there at all times, and blame the people who don't follow the gunman's demands. It's sick.

At the End we got everything, so that just shows us, we shouldn't care if someone is mad and leave, we just get stuff anyway, just take longer.

That's why we buy TX products, they don't mind us talking about piracy.
Furthermore: 'developed for studying purposes only' etc is bullcrap, everyone knows that 90% will use it for piracy.
Hope you can sleep better now, not your fault, of course not, ahuhm.

But it really isn't! - The names of the developers and mine will be remembered by those who started the piracy infested SDFiles and will throw bad light at us, people that just wanted to share homebrew and create open-source stuff.

No worries, i will not remember your name

If you release something open source, you can't get mad when people use it in a way you didn't intend. If you're concerned about real life repurcussions, use an online alias or post it anonymously. I don't know why anyone would ever post anything on the internet under their real name, to be honest. That's just asking for trouble.

Piracy is going to happen whether people like it or not and I'm surprised that people are pretending like they didn't know that this is bound to happen eventually.

Here's my two cents:
If you go about hacking a console (even with the brightest and most innocent intentions) you are bound to slowly open the doors to piracy. There is no way around that.

Should that make developers feel bad? No, why the hell should it?
You're developing tools aimed to "jailbreak" the console and remove the limits put there from the manufacturer. You're giving the choice to people to to what the hell they want with their physical property. It's not your call to limit what they should or should not be doing. That's in the hands of Nintendo in this case. They don't want piracy? Well, just ban people who pirate.

You can't give people the keys to the treasure chest and then expect them to just watch it from far away.

N.B. This does not have the intent to offend anyone. People who contribute to the Nintendo Switch developer scene have my greatest respect for their work and I thank them for their efforts. Just don't act like a Anti-Piracy Knight, it's wasted time you won't get back.

And it's totally alright! That's what Nintendo should do.
I don't mind (and I didn't mind in the past) if they ban my console. I'm the one breaching their ToS
Ye tbh I think they do it to discourage new people from modding their switch I mean if it is complex and risky why do it

But this is not that much about piracy, this is about if you are using a tool for pirate propouses first ask the dev if they want to appear in the credits, because some devs don't want to be vinculed to piracy

Thanks, I couldn't read the OP, three words into the first line sent me into a coma.

There are various opinions on this.
Mine is a little diferent. Code is free. It's enough we have to take shit from big companies, i don't like when this type of behaviour comes from open source comunity. Yes, his open source (if it's true) is being used for stuff he didn't want. Bad luck. Welcome to open source
