I have games actually purchased on two different PSN accounts on two different PS3s, how do I just backup my licenses or whatever in case I need to format the drive and reinstall them? Since they are on CFW now, I can no longer go on PSN (not without risking banning the account at least).

That doesn't explain anything else about what I need to do though.

Well instead of installing Rap file by holding down L1 button after launching. You hold the L2 button to backup the games rap file that you have purchased and installed. Games you download in pkg format come with rap file to install for activation.

Do I still need to create that aa account even if I just want to backup all of my information for now?

I was looking at the instructions here:

http://www.psx-place.com/threads/reactpsn.175/

And I am just confused. What's holding down X for 6 seconds do? Am I supposed to do that before I can use any of the other commands? Because if not, it doesn't list what holding X does compared to holding down any other button on boot.

So to fully backup everything, would I run it with L2, and then again with R1, and then again with R2? All three of those seem to backup different things.

Will it display any message of what it's doing or if it was successful/failed, or will it just close the app and bo back to the XMB regardless of what happens with no message?

You need to hold X and hold L2 together, the file will be exported to an USB thumb drive connected to the PS3. You only need RAPs file for activation.

Ok, so hold both X and the other button I want to perform the command of when starting ReActPSN.

Is there any reason I shouldn't do all three of those (L2, R1, and R2) I mentioned one at a time? Also, do I still need to create that aa account if I just want to backup the licenses from my own account? And if no, do I need the aa account to restore them to my account? I don't know if that aa account is only to restore licenses that aren't originally from your account, or to restore any licenses at all even if they are your own from your own account.

Brotip: press triangle on ReActPSN in the xmb > update history, that feature is just basically a compressed text file and ReActPSN's dev used it as a button listing

Is there any reason I shouldn't do all three of those (L2, R1, and R2) I mentioned one at a time?
You shouldn't press more than one button, except for combos that actually require more than one (I don't remember if they exist: check the "changelog" as I said above)

ReActPSN always installs licenses to the "aa" user (fake-activating him if he isn't already, and renames him afterwards)

If you want to install raps in the name of any user (who must be already activated) you can use PSNPatch instead (which with some configuration fiddling can also load them from another device/path than dev_usb000/exdata)

Ok, so I don't need to hold down X in addition to the button I want to use?

Ok, so I only need the aa user to restore licenses, not back them up?

I see. Would this PSNPatch be able to use the data I backed up using ReActPSN to do it?

And I admit, I am not sure what you mean by "activated user".

My issue is that I have an old 60GB model PS3 on Rebug, it works, but runs hot and the fan is always kicking into max even if I am just idling on the XMB, I am worried it';s going to die soon. So I got a used slim, installed Rebug on that, and am planning to do a system transfer. That slim was not reformatted and has quite a lot of preinstalled PS3 and PS1 games, many of them games I would like and want to keep. Originally I wanted to see if there was some way I coudl extract those games, format the system, and then reinstall them on my user but that seems like it's pretty difficult to do, so I am just going to keep his user and transfer mine from the old PS3 to the slim.

I don't know if this will result in an "unactvated" user or not on the slim when I transfer it. Additionally, I don't know if my user is still "activated" on my old PS3, I haven't connected it to PSN in ages since it's hacked now.

Yes, both can convert rap to rif (although the implementation details are a little different, and it's not the main feature of PSNPatch)

And I admit, I am not sure what you mean by "activated user".
Any (local - 1st column of xmb) user with a valid act.dat (which officially you can only get via PSN > account > activation > game > activate - or unofficially, for the "aa" user only, by using ReActPSN to install raps)

You see, eboots are encrypted with a key called "Klicensee" which you also need to run them; but since it's only specific to the game, and The Man doesn't want people to "easily" share them, they encrypt the Klicensee itself with a key supplied by the act.dat (which is therefore account specific), and the result is stored into a RIF file - which is the only format a regular console will load them from; so some ingenious people invented the RAP format, which is used to backup/share licenses regardless of act.dat (however, as a format the PS3 OS doesn't know about, you still need to convert them back to RIF with a homebrew of your choice to actually unlock the software)

(I have bent the facts a bit to make the concept easier to understand: if you just read the above, you would think why use RAP instead of Klicensee directly as the account-independent key, which involves some technicalities I have partially forgotten)

A reasonable and proven way (but not the fastest or easiest) of backing up your games in a console-independent format (rap + pkg straight from Sony) is found in the NoPayStation google sheets database;
you can also probably just extract the licenses with ReActPSN, copy the actual installations (dev_hdd0/game/*) to the other console, install licenses, and rebuild database in recovery - but I never tried, and you might as well go with the more accurate way :)

Yes, the XMB is heavy (I actually get less temperature, for a fixed fan speed, in some games I play); replacing the thermal paste both above and under the IHS really helps, though :)

Don't suppose there are any guides to this?

Yeah, I already tried to replace the normal thermal paste, but it didn't help, and I don't have the skills to de-lid the CPU/GPU to replace the internal one. I tried contacting several people who do PS3 repairs on forums, and none of them said they can do it.
