Hey Guys,

I just recently received a DS Original Capture Console and was thinking about replacing the plastics. Does anyone know of an online distributor that sells replacement shells / plastics ?

I looked on Ebay and Amazon and havent really found anything. During a quick Search I didnt find anywhere that was selling these still.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Cheers,

If ebay and amazon are not doing it for you then you are going to have a hard time.

I had a hard time finding such things back in 2014 when I did https://gbatemp.net/threads/ds-original-phat-replacement-case-review-56k-no.364632/ and I have not heard of anybody doing a new run since. I am not expecting such things either -- most seem to treat the original DS models like they are worthless junk (the screens mainly being the thing responsible for that opinion) and as such the incentive is not there.

To that end your best bet is probably to find a DS at a flea market/yard sale/whatever and cannibalise that. Not usually worth it for the average case replacement but for a custom modded one like yours it becomes an option.

Thank you for the reply. I know its an older machine. I am just not a fan of all the wear and tear of the 2nd hand device. I have found a few that are in decent shape online.. but was hoping for almost new.

You are definitely right, they are difficult to find.

DS-Lite shells are found in an incredible abundance. But the Old "phat" DS? Wasn't able to find any. You could try hunting ebay for a defective DS, one that's electronically bugged (blown fuses, etc), not physically (broken hinge) - but then again, chances are those weren't really treated well either and the shell might also show a lot of wear.

While you do get things that you or I might have driven into the ground and are trying to flog on you can still find the one got for a kid, which promptly got replaced with an iphone and forgotten about to this day.

Nice one.

Make sure you align hinge properly when assembling the new one. Probably not so bad if the hinge is not broken like mine was but still something to look for. I had a little spanner (it was in the images for that thread I linked) but you could do it with pliers or anything like that.

Thanks for the Tip. Im an A+ Certified Tech of 12 years experience. I should be ok to transfer it to a new shell. But any tips are always appreciated
