Since DeSmume relies on GDB for debugging it will be a pain in the ass and may take a while to figure out. I will do my best to fit it into my spare time. It is possible that it is a bug in the emulator itself since it works on the real hardware and no$gba.

So far I'm not able to find any recent version of the emulator that has been the GDB functionality. The problem is that the latest version that I have found (0.7.1) white screens right away. I will keep searching for a newer version that has GDB and would appreciate that if anyone has one if they could send it my way.

I asked on the forums.

"from what ive heard, it always "works" and some people are able to make use of it. it's never "worked" for me. just be sure the JIT is off and use a dev+ version"

I'm in the middle of re-registering my domain so that is the reason for the outage. I will post it to romhacking after I figure out what — if anything — I need to change for DeSmume to play it.

To get a DeSmume version with GDB enabled:
  • Windows:
  1. Download the sources from the repo (don't use 0.9.10, it has so many bugs)
  2. Copy "desmume/src/windows/defaultconfig/userconfig.h" to "desmume/src/windows/userconfig/"
  3. Edit the file to uncomment "#define GDB_STUB"
  4. Compile as release.
  • Linux:
  1. Download the sources from the repo
  2. Run "./configure --enable-gdb-stub"
  3. Run "make" and "sudo make install"
In any platform to run it with GDB use: 'desmume --arm9gdb=PORT game.nds' or 'desmume --arm7gdb=PORT game.nds'

I have been using IDA Pro to connect to DeSmume and the debugging (at least for me) it's so much easier than using no$gba.

Thank you, Cracker. I've been looking for it everywhere, and for some reason trying to insert the code by Hex Editing has been giving me problems.

Sorry for necro.
For me all versions behave like v2 on desmume. On no$GBA nothing works.
Maybe it's only for real hardware?

The patch link is dead. Could you please upload your important projects to RomHacking.net which stores such patches more securely over time? Thank you very much for your consideration.

hey man, doubt you'll ever reply this question but I already have the no so, I have 2 real quick questions

1- would you do a v5 with some new stuff implemented? like somersalt and u-turn being the n64 inputs? you already managed to make boost and brake being buttons, and these are double taps on specific parts of the touch screen, have no idea how tf you did that, but if you did, I don't see how doing the original inputs would be that much of a stretch, if not, it could be on L plus up/down or R plus up/down; and also, L or R to be the barrel roll, kinda defeats the purpose to play with d-pad if you can't do these obrigatory movement options, if you actually made then into the game, then please reply to me how bc I couldn't figure it out

2- also, could you make another hack to improve the touch screen controls? I honestly think that the touch screen is better to aim and move than the d-pad, but doing every single action is what makes it bad, so if you could make a hack that makes all the other actions being on buttons would make the whole experience a whole lot better

L/R being the fire buttons

Up/X being Somersalt

Down/B being U-Turn

Left/Y being brakes

Right/A being boost

Here you go.
Hey, very interested in playing sf command with button controls. unfortunately, its looks like youre the only person whos made a hack like this, and the hack no longer appears to be working. ive tried both rom patcher and deltapatcher, neither of them seem to recognize your file to patch the game. Is it because the files are so old or am i just doing it wrong? id love to be able to try it out and possibly preserve this patch, if youre still around.
