So branching off this post
For those 25 and older, what was your first exposure to the net?
You don't have to be 25, I just thought this post was an interesting topic on it's own. So I branched off her comment to make my own thread.
I thought this would actually be an interesting thread to share some of our stories about our first experiences on the web.
Going off my own post, but I will add some details.
I was online before 11, but nothing too interesting or worth remembering.
I was around 11 when I really got online with my family's brand new Dell computer and a freshly setup AOL connection. I started on Neopets under the username "darkspirit11113," because I was fucking "edgy" kid. From there I just kind of did neopets stuff. You know, played some games, joined some guilds, and what have you. I actually ended up with my first fursona on Neopets, a wolf named "Loneheart" cause "edge."
Along side neopets, I also used to play Runescape since it was really one of the few games that would load on my blazing 64kb/s of speed. I used the same shitty username as before. This was so long ago, that Runescape was still just a browser game and you had to pay for sound effects. But I got to a decent level and played the hell out of the game, even in school because they never blocked it.
Funny thing is, my youtube title still has the old screenname

I remember the good 'ol times browsing on the old pc which still had the old beige colored plastic and tube monitor, looking on supercheats, found through google, for pokemon silver cheats (I had no friend to trade with) and eventually from there stumble upon the magic that is youtube. Then it all went down in a spiral I suppose (or up depending on your point of view), I think it was already broadband, never had to dial in anyway, was around 9/10 at the time, so about 2005/2006 I guess.

Edit: oh, oops, I'm actually 22, ah well, sharing anyway.

Got my user name immediately on "Acme Pet" at about age 12.

Played Neopets though I don't remember my user name there. School blocked it :-( I was a whiz at the Cheat card game. At school I also printed out strategy guides for Ocarina of Time though I regret that now!

Joined GameTalk about age 15 and had a blast. Didn't really use the net much after that, and stopped playing games. Until now.

Downloaded Limewire with a friend to get all the kewl new music, ended up with a mountain of malware + porn. I think one of my first online games on the PC was Habbo Hotel, if you can really call it a game, and then MapleStory. I also played RS at some point for a little while but not enough to really care for it

Any age is fine, I just felt like branching off her post because I thought it would be interesting thread on it's own.

God, such a long time ago. I remember using icq and palace chat on Windows 95. AOL of course. Yahoo was used for everything. Not much as far as gaming. Diablo, system shock, StarCraft and what have you over 56k. Internet was too much of a chore to spend very much time on.

Edit: oh yeah, looking up cheat codes for 16bit games on gamefaqs back before it was bought out by whatever cancer owns it now.

I got called a faggot on 4chan in 2008, does that count?
My first experience with a full-on PC was probably in 2003, with Windows 98. I have very vague memories of Windows 3.1. Eventually though, we got Windows XP. My first experience ONLINE was your usual kid-friendly places like McDonald's games, and others when I was 4. I eventually played (unironically) Roblox, Club Penguin, and ToonTown around 2007. I passed through 4chan in 2008... guess I haven't been the same since. Then Fusionfall came and went in 2010. I got Steam in 2011 because of Portal. Ever since, I've been browsing the net for places to frequent. In 2014, I decided to join here, after seeing the name pop up a few times in 2011 and 2012.
Shit, forgot about my LimeWire and FrostWire days! That eventually led me into Torrents, which accidentally introduced me to porn. But don't worry, I closed it out... and continued pirating Wii games.

I was in the 'gifted program' in school so I had access to a locked room in the library where they kept a TRS-80 with cassette drive. An Apple II came along at some point as well. Anyway, in 1980 I was in eighth grade, and one week the gifted teacher came to our school with something called a modem. (There was only one gifted teacher for the county then, and only three of us in the 'program' at my school.) We used a program on cassette to load the client on the TRS-80, then called the gifted class at another school in the county that was waiting at their TRS-80 to receive the call. We typed back and forth at each other for 30 minutes, mostly just dissing each others' schools, and I sent them a program I was working on at the time, trying to mimic Atari Tank Battle.

This was what the modem looked like. You stick the phone receiver in it.

Next time 'online' wasn't until 1992. For some reason I can't remember, I didn't mess with computers much in high school or college. (ok, ok, I remember ... cars, guitars, girls, beer, MJ) Anyway, I was living in Hiroshima, Japan, at the time teaching English for the JET Program. An American guy named Richard who ran the computer network for Hiroshima University showed me a couple BBS boards on a 386 machine. That PC, the 'internet' (even though it was all DOS then), and the 5.25 floppies he had stacked up were like something out of Star Trek to me. Mind blown LOL.

So yeah, I'm old. :P

Man, if only I could remember. My first online experience was probably around 2007, me being like 5-6, I was on neopets all day. It was this old as heck Compaq computer (before they got bought out). But I would say my first REAL online interaction with people (way older then me) was Minecraft (call it cringe whatever) I was admin for 3 different servers, one this really huge server. Those were the days, I'm not going to say stuff like "oh everything was much nicer back then" but everything felt much nicer. I would log onto Skype and minecraft and those people didn't care they were talking with a 9 year old. They just cared he was getting supplies for the minecraft house or whatever. If there is one thing I regret, it's not keeping in touch with those people. Those were some of the bets times, and I will never have the sence of wonder and enjoyment I did ever again like I did back then. I could write a huge blog post about it, but whatever.

tl:dr neopets and minecraft

- Played Dragon Ball Z Tournament on Cartoon Network's website
- Download GBA and N64 roms
- Downloaded demos via AOL which took up to a day or wouldn't (if someone called)
- Would dare to look up Playboy

That's the stuff I did back then.

Something around 2002 or 2003. Playing flash games at school. I made an email account around that time, and I still use it even today.
I also had MSN back in the day, and that's about it. Only became very active (as in, used at least once a day) on internet around 2012.

hmmm I'm mostly sure I started with a pokemon and Brazilian nintendo site we had that time, some online chats because was nice to talk to someone far away lol
the pokemon game was simples with someinfos, flash games and idk I can't remember well XD I don't remind if was " oficial" or just for a magazine " pokemon club" we had that time õ3o
nintendo had a bad format forum and a chat that don't lasted much ...
It maybe was around 2000's ?
I wandered much on google images " looking for what to do" , I found some sonic and zelda foruns but I don't knew english that day ... there was a pokemon news site I entered like every time to see if had something new :v my way to find the site was go to google, look "pokémon", images, go to page [forgot the number] and click an old ruby/sapphire screenshot XD maybe I was too slow to understand urls that time? :v lol Alo looked the Japanese nintendo site a lot... well that part was more far than " my first experience", since I already used msn/ICQ and some foruns that time ...
I fell bad for nor doing other stuff to " kill time", like drawing more or learning something ... OTL

I played on cartoon network page a platformer He-Man flash game. I think it was at 56kbps speeds, but not really sure, I sometimes remember it was 128kbps. Agh, my head hurts.

Anyway, that was my first online experience at six, and I'm 24, so it's been a really long long time.

After that, I got into emulators. I never ever owned a console at all until the GameCube release.

Well, well, I'm derailing from the thread here, anyway, it was my first "gaming" experience too, since I never knew the NES nor GameBoy before playing that He-Man game.
