You are ignorant if you believe this will be a wiikey-only feature for very long.

Hey guess what? the modchip (or drivechip) development community is a cut-throat business, especially now with clones popping up with nearly zero R&D costs. Of course a chip is going to try adding different features in order to get more sales.

If emu_kidd didn't support this DVD9 update for the sole reason that it was not a universal drivechip feature I think that would be pathetic to limit yourself like that.

If the wiikey people can get a wii to address a DVD9 disc than obviously the base hardware can do it, therefor any chip that is upgradeable can be updated to support this new feature--provided the devs figure out how to do it. Considering that all interaction is done through a serial port we know that it is not a very complicated process.

I'm all for open-source ideals and sharing of code but that's not going to fly with most chip makers, it's a completely different market.

disclaimer: I own an official wiikey

I'm sure the supposed "Exclusive" is purely because no other modchip has or will have support for DVD9..

Whenever they get around to supporting that disc format then Emu_kidd's utility will work for that particular modchip..

Damn people, don't go off on a tangent when you don't think about this and just type out every hateful thing that comes to your mind..

ya cos it's so easy to clone this chip now they have to put a sticker on it to let u know that u are filling one guy's pockets. Good job I'll stick with my clone or whatever it is, appears to be real but for a fraction of the cost.

Pirate hardware
and
Pirate the games

same thing. you can pirate wristwatches and clothes too.

as for wiikey hate, that nonsense stems from people who want it to be 100% free (they want the chip, pcb, solder, mod, and software to cost $0) Although that is impossible, look how many people are content with their xecuter 3 mod chips and there are NO clones of those floating around. Sometimes you get what you pay for (cloned magic chips for ps2 sucked huge balls) Whereas sometimes you get a little more (a lot of wiikey clones work exactly the same as an original).

Anyhow do I hate the wiikey designer? no.. do I care if he whines that people copied his chip which is blatantly used to run copies illegitimate copies of Nintendo software? That makes me want to laugh in his face. LMAO

I bet its not long before the people making the clones, somehow manage to get hold of the sticker. You would think from the start the wiikey team would have stuck a little holographic sticker on the actual chip.

Well, that smarts. Seeing how i bought the wiikey like last week.... >:

However, i'm surprised how the wii can read dual layer even though it wasn't made to read DVDs, and so far there are no 7.__GB isos.

DVD-9 = Dual-layer

OH THANK GOODNESS!!!

I'm so glad the WiiKey Team has not closed down and they've really brought themselves up to par with an exclusive sticker!

I was worried they were working on an update for their chip.

Seems to be a lot of bitterness in this thread from people who bought chips that don't support these new features.

Good news... or not...

Wiikey.cn said:
Wiikey update: ETA 1 week!
We have received positive news from the developers. The long-awaited upgrade to wiikey is basically finished, and is now being tested on different systems to ensure that is is working smoothly. We expect that it will be available to the public around May 15.

We would also like to point out that making the upgrade incompatible with clones have not caused any delays in the process.

cheers

That's good news but I really wish they could elaborate on what's exactly in the upcoming update rather than getting tidbits from a beta tester..

Strange how they mentioned that making the update incompatible with clones has not delayed the process but they didn't mention whether that 'feature' has been implemented.

Anyways kudos for them...they got a new sticker I wouldn't put on any piece of machinery except maybe my toilet plunger.

I can't believe emu_kid associated with them. The esteem I had for him is now buried six feet under. I might shock some of you, given that some of my work is borderline, but I know of one line you should never cross...

I'm unable to find your "borderline work"... maybe you mean watching pron while downloading DS rom torrents?
Anyhoo, I doubt emu_kid cares what you and others think. The majority of oss developers work on projects they want for themselves or are being paid for, not for whiners.

Both the sticker and DVD9 support are a bit pointless...

The fact you're unable to find it, is a proof I'm not a complete loser. I'am no stupid kid, I'm a grad student and I have also an on-hold position of high school teacher, I don't want to lose these easily. Also I'm believing some people like actually to share their knowledge and benefit the community. Such sharing is common sense in research, at least in my field, and the fact that a lot of oss projects are the work of young researchers is no work of fate. The recent involvement of business in oss should not eclipse the years of free work made in these. I really doubt people like Stallman would agree to your point.

QUOTE(Renegade_R @ May 8 2007, 08:48 AM)True...why do your work for free when people will pay you to do the same thing?
Because of one simple thing : freedom.
If you work for people paying you, you can't have your priorities but you must lead to some profit for the investors.

To get back on topic, I made another post about emu_kidd, lightening a bit by position. But it's a shame you have to be a Nobel prize to make comment on this board. The "who are you to criticize" and "whatever you say, no one cares of your position" is refraining any deep and constructive discution.

Well it is the truth, emu_kidd wouldn't even care what any of us has to say unless it's real feedback on GCOS which he views that only on MaxConsole or Tehskeen..

And the GCOS is really a team that turned into one guy.. I'm actually glad that emu_kidd has done as much as he did when he had to work solo now around the last year of the Gamecube's lifespan
