Hardware What is the largest SD card the Wii can use?

Hi,
I currently have 41GB of games on hard disk and I am wondering it the Wii can use a 64GB FAT Formatted SD card instead so I can recover my HDD?
I currently use WiiFlow and Cfg USB Loader with the HD.

SD/SDHC/SDXC they all work size does not matter, Just be careful what card you buy not all sd cards are compatible with the wii.

I knew the original Wii could support up to 32gigs... does greater-than-32gigs actually work in the Wii's SD slot?

3ds doesn't block them. I can't name a good reason why Wii would've.

I use a Sandisk SDXC 512GB card in my Wii with no problems.

At least that's what we tell ourselves.

Anyway, it's worth mentioning that you can't run Smash Stack, Bathaxx, Indiana PWNS, etc with an SDHC or SDXC. It needs to be 2GB or less.

Who the HELL buys a 512GB SDXC card? Those things are like $450.

I guess if a person is really adamant in NOT having a USB HDD sitting on top of their Wii and prefers to play their games on a SD card. I run my games off an SD Card as well, but not to that big of capacity.

The SD slot is slower than a USB drive anyway.

Yeah, that's true. But, it's the trade off though, right? You eliminate having a dedicated USB HDD near your Wii. Sure, you can partition it (for use also with something else), but honestly, if I had a choice of whether I want it there or not, I wouldn't. Less clutter for me.

Why would you need to partition it? That doesn't make any sense. FAT32 and NTFS work on computers too.

I actually do have a USB-SD card adapter, but I only use it for my laptop.

I haven't noticed any speed difference honestly...

I keep and play all 170 of my 1:1 GameCube backups on the SDXC card, along with many old games, music, etc.

I do have a 2TB external WD USB HDD hooked up that I keep my Wii backups and movies on, while keeping .5GB (EDIT: .5 TB) of it free for a complete backup of everything on the SDXC.

I used a PNY 256gb (formatted as fat 32) for a while, but because it was so large it ran rather slow. I switched back to using a smaller sd card with a hard drive because it ran faster. I really wanted it to work but everything just took forever to load

For Wii usage, tie between HDD and SSD. The SD card slot is limited to around 2 MB/s regardless of what kind of card you use. Flash drives generally use lower-grade NAND flash than SSDs and even SD cards, so they can have issues.

While SSDs are faster than HDDs in general, in the case of Wii (e.g. Nintendont and USB loaders), the improved speed doesn't help. Wii is limited to USB 2.0 (so you can't get higher than ~45 MB/s anyway), and most games only expect a maximum of 5-6 MB/s due to the speed of the disc drive.
