Didn't Nintendo say long ago that their next-gen handheld (not 3DS nor New 3DS) may not have glasses-free 3D? Maybe that's one reason to bring out the New 3DS, to test the waters to see if the 3D effect is still relevant. It does offer a wider viewing area for it, thanks to head-tracking.

I think they kept 3D mostly because the console is meant as an upgrade to the original 3DS, not an alternative, like the 2DS. It would create an even worse rift in the userbase if the "better" one was missing a feature of the original, like glasses-free 3D.

I don't know how you pull that off. I can barely survive in Mega Man and similar games with each finger on a function at all times. :P

If you think that's hard it's because you never played megaman X games on the keyboard.
The first time I got Megaman X4, I was probably 12, it was a PC version and I didn't have a joystick, I played it using
Z to dash, X to jump and C to shoot. Honestly I still don't know how I managed to beat it like this.

After I got a joystick Playstation like, I was playing Megaman with
Circle to Dash, X to Jump and Square to shoot, the same scheme it uses in Playstation 1.
It was so marvelous I kept this scheme to nowadays and I'll probably keep it forever.

Of course the New 3DS would include glasses-free 3D. It's till a 3DS. I'm talking about it being a test on whether the next-gen handheld would keep the glasses-free 3D, as the New 3DS adds a wider viewing area. The main purpose of improving specs, imo, was so that the headtracking system would not take from the pool that all current 3DS games utilize, and so far, the upgraded specs seem to be going by a power of 2, much like the DSi did from the 3DS. So, it would be likely that much of the upgrade would not be fully utilized, so we now get games like Xenoblade Chronicles coming to it.

It's not.

1. That bundle is being released this year.

2. You can see the shoulder buttons in the images for that 3DS, there's no second set of shoulder buttons.

Yes, but before the announcement, they never displayed the second set of shoulder buttons, however now (look at the OP) they do show it.
I was just wondering if the Super Smash Bros 3DS XL model that is coming out in western countries this year will also be the New 3DS XL model.

I didn't notice the N3DS Smash Bros one. I'm thinking that will just be a Japanese bundle as Smash Bros will already be out. Next year, it might end up being a limited edition N3DS people in other countries can order, or just plates you could swap onto your N3DS. It would fit with things they've done in the past.

I see. I just don't understand why Nintendo would bother to release 2 Super Smash Bros 3DS, with one inferior to the other. It just seems like a waste of time and money.

This is nothing new. A lot of companies will do things like this to double dip into the wallets of people that like to collect that kind of stuff. It's not expensive or hard to print something on a shell, they already had the artwork, so I doubt they'll lose any money on this decision, only the consumers will be losing money.

Nope, not even a word about their next handheld/console, apart from they aren't exiting the hardware business and the successor's are being worked on.

Take a look at the moment 29min20s:

There is nothing stopping them from releasing New 3DS Smash bundles later on the West

Here's a picture of the Smash bros 3DS being released in Europe. They are clearly different. The Japanese one has a dark burgundy shade while also having the Smash logo that the Europe one does not possess. It also doesn't have the ZR/LR buttons so Joe88 is right. This wouldn't be the first time the goddamn greedy selfish creative citizens under the red Sun kept their limited edition 3DS console bunduru's for themselves. If at any point in the future we get a smash bundle here in the states that includes the new 3DS, it will be a completely different design.
