Ahh.... American Sign Language or Portuguese Sign Language ( lingua gestual portuguesa) is the most highly regarded asset of Deaf Culture. Spoken English or Portuguese (Portugal) is almost completely useless to the Deaf. Even if they can learn to read lips, the understanding of English or Portuguese doesn't even come close to the language of ASL or LGP. If the ears don't work, why would you force them to? ASL or LGP is the natural language for the Deaf. To equate the fluency of English or Portuguese to hearing people, ASL or LGP is the match for Deaf people. They are not meant to use a language that is not their own, nonetheless be forced to. (Credit from Google research)
Now, my grammar - Now you understand what I am saying ? That's why many hearing people tells some of those people how badly their English grammar and assumed that they are a foreigners. Absolutely not, they actually forgot or do not understand about deaf people's culture and their languages. Not all of them are foreigners.. Some deaf people are here in the Forum.. Anywhere. See ?
