More MicroNinja News
Price and new features
Just 10 days ago we introduced the Microninja, a new slot-1 solution using removable microSD media. Today we have interesting news concerning its release, features and pricing.
• The price of the Microninja will be 60€. The NinjaDS price will then drop to 50€. (official)
• We at GBAtemp should receive our review units in about ten days.
• There should be no sticking-out, or at worse 0.5 cm if the manufacturers can't fix it completely.
• DS compatibility is being improved, most troublesome games should work on release day.
• Download play is a priority, they are definitely working on it and hope it'll be fixed on Microninja launch.
Many of these points we already knew. Now the most exciting part: we have new details about features that should satisfy the space-hungry and developpers.
• For developpers: "Ninjame".
The MicroNinja firmware - which I remind you is the same as the NinjaDS - will include a new feature called "Ninjame". The Ninjame is a special FTP server that runs on your DS. You can connect to it using any FTP client (from your PC, OSX, Linux... or even using the DS FTP homebrew client!), send a compiled .nds homebrew application and once the transfer is finished, the .nds will automatically be run on the DS. The speed should be around 100 kilobytes/s. An easy, fast, effective way to test your homebrew! I'd even add "cheap" since this feature will be on the NinjaDS too (50€).
• For the space-hungry: a wifi FTP server.
You can transfer any file from your computer using a FTP client. The files are stored on the MicroSD/SD card. This means you can manage the content of your card remotely. You could even send roms to the cart but the speed is unfortunately limited to 50 kbyte/s - should be improved in the future.
• For the large families: a "multisave" feature.
The Microninja will support up to 9 save slots for each game. Switching save slots will be as easy as pressing L/R. If you have 9 save slots for each game, it means 9 different dogs in Nintendogs, 27 different games in New Super Mario Bros, etc.
Here at GBAtemp we're very eager to review the Microninja, and if it lives up to its promises and to our expectations, it could very well be the "ultimate" slot-1 solution everyone's looking for.
Stay tuned!
