shaunj66, you mentioned about updating the firmware, is this as easy as placing the update file on the SD card and running it on the DS or is there more to it than that?

Nice review!

The NinjaDS will get the ball rollin on the production of SLOT-1 based solutions with competitors trying to top each other... (better compatblity, sits flush, etc)

This is a good day for the scene indeed, Huzzah!

Nice work, Shaun!

This looks like it sticks out more than the M3 SD though and that's not good considering all the newer flash solutions don't. I think I would rather go back to the old carts and flash my DS instead of getting this

Now if only the DS-X would allow you to slot in a mini SD card like the DSLink does... That would be perfect!

Speaking of DSLink... Are you guys going to review that soon? It'll be good to know how the compatibility and battery life is with it.

Great review thanks, but 7/10 are you serious?Seems for me much to high.
If I wasn't serious then why would I put 7/10 in my review? It's not a bad card at all. The ability to play clean ROMs is brilliant and the card has a lot of promise and stuff going for it.

@ unplugedzomby:

Yes the 7/10 was fair. (read on...) 7/10 is hardly an ideal score for a flash kit anyway. This score does not only take ROM compatibility into consideration but also other things such as the ability to play clean ROMs, extra features, the design and value of the product.

I have already stated that the NinjaDS could have used another two weeks in development before being released.

All kits have problems with some ROMs, and most have a problem with the mini-games in New Super Mario Bros. Clean ROM compatibility on the NinjaDS seems to be at approx. 90% right now including slow downs and I've been in close contact with the team behind it and believe they will fix whatever they can in the coming weeks.

As I've already said; it's not a bad card at all. The ability to play clean ROMs is brilliant and the card has a lot of promise and stuff going for it.

I'm going to have to update the review AND the score, I've found a problem with the card that I haven't taken into consideration or documented. Stay tuned.

Nice review, the only thing that lets me down is the fact that it sticks out. Think I'll be sticking to flashme and the supercard lite for the time being. Great idea being able to use SD card on the DS slot though.

NinjaDS is not convenient hardware. I'd pick SC,M3,G6 lites over this. If they made a microSD flush version, i'd definately check it out.

The features of the Ninja DS is pretty amazing (if it works). Playing DS files over wifi is a great feature to test out the game without uploading on SD, IF IT WORKS. right now, at 20kb/s transfer rate, i don't think u can run any game at full speed lol.

If i were to pick between NinjaDS and DS Link, I'd pick DS-link becuase portability and realiability is key to me. NinjaDS sticks out for like 2inches. if something tags on it in my bag and bends the ninjapass, it'll eventually break. If i had DS link, nothing will get caught onto and it'll never break because the exterior of the DS lite will protect it.

However, feature wise, if they finish it, NinjaDS For The WIN.
- built in Passme device
- clean roms
- built in mp3, picture
- wifi gameplay
- released fat lib for future homebrew compatibility
- DSorganize, MoonShell works

Great review. I agree that the support of clean roms is a big plus (and Wifi-FTP is also cool), but it sticks out way too much. I'm sure we'll see NinjaDS MicroSD soon...

You guys are all being fooled big time by Ninja DS!

The Ninja DS takes clean roms, but before starting the game on the DS, the ROM in memory is being patched!

This makes it no better than a SLOT-2 type device (like M3 or whatever), because they patch the roms aswell. (Maybe not realtime, but on a PC side app).

What this means is that ROM compatibility is not 100%, as you can see in the review, some games already fail. So prepare to grab firmware updates everytime a ROM fails

.
This might also be related to why "Single card multiplayer" is not working, but that I am not sure of.

I just wanted a SLOT-1 device which did not needed to patch, but it seems Ninja DS is not living up to my expectations.

I have talked to Whisperin, which is the guy behind Ninja DS, and he confirms that he is patching the roms realtime.

What are your thoughts on this?
