Android Nexus 7 problem

I bought a nexus 7 from amazon.co.uk and I didn't realise until it was too late that is was being shipped from America. I knew that there would be charging problems from the get go because as you can see I'm from the UK and we have different power supplies here. When I opened the box it came with the American two pronged charger and also came with a Samsung UK charger

why Samsung? WTF. So I plugged the Samsung charger in and connected it to my Nexus 7 and the wall plug socket started making a buzzing noise quite loud. I took it out because that did not sound good even though it did charge the Nexus.

I tried the USB charger that comes with the Nexus too and plugged it into my laptop but it would not charge whilst I was using the nexus. I suppose it would charge when the nexus was off but verrrrrry slowly. My question is, what would be the solution because I'm assuming the battery inside the American nexus is different to the UK nexus 7s so I can't use any generic plug with the same connection because it might damaged it right?

you should check the US charger if it says 100v-240v if it does then it can be used any where in the world, buy a travel adapter for the US charger or ask a friend if they have one to lend it to you before you buy one to test it out

also battery are all the same any where in the world AA in US it the same as in Europe

like my psp go is from canada but i can use the charger here in portugal.

Will it charge fast if I use an adapter for the original asus nexus 7 charger that came with it?

The Nexus 7 charges via micro USB. Any generic micro USB charger should do the job. You can find these pretty cheap on Amazon (under £5), or you may well have one already. (If you have a mobile phone made in the last few years other than an iPhone, they pretty much all have micro USB chargers).

You don't need to worry about voltages etc., virtually all micro USB chargers accept an input voltage in the range 100-240V (which covers both the US 120V and the UK 230V mains supplies) and output a voltage of 5V (the USB standard). The one thing that might change is the output current (my phone's charger has an output of 1.5A, my tablet's charger has an output of 2A). All this will effect is the speed of charging. The device won't take more current than it can safely handle.

[So for example with my phone and tablet; if I plugged my phone in using the tablet charger (2.0A output), it'd probably only take ~1.5A (maybe slightly more), and the charging time would be pretty much the same. But if I plugged my tablet in with the phone charger (1.5A output), it'd still charge, only more slowly than with the 2.0A charger.]

So you have two options; either you can get a travel adapter as dragonblood9999 suggested, and plug your US charger in through that, or else you can just get a reasonably cheap micro USB charger with a UK plug and save yourself some hassle. (I wouldn't recommend going too cheap though, stick with a decent brand - some cheap, unbranded Chinese chargers may not be the safest).

The charging from standard USB port is slow because it only gives 0.5A current, when the official charger gives 2A current at least the ones that are sold in Finland. Adapter to the official US charger will work if the voltage range is big enough to accommodate UK electric network. In europe the standard is 220-240 volts at 50Hz and US is 120 volts at 60HZ. At least my charger works in both and it will be printed in the side. If your charger does not accommondate both voltages, you will need transformer to change the voltage.
