Donkey Kong is certainly a property that's a far cry from the mature Metroid franchise, but, if the rumors hold true, an attempt at a DK game could certainly stretch the team's creative muscles. The last Donkey Kong game was the Wii-remake of Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat from Nintendo's Tokyo team. Other external studios who have taken a crack at Donkey Kong include Rare with Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong 64, Namco with Donkey Konga, and Paon with DK King of Swing.

Remember that it was IGN who reckoned there was Kid Icarus & Pilot Wings games coming out for the Wii.

Retro Studios have only developed three games, all were part of the Metroid Prime trilogy. They have worked on other games but being Gamecube developers at the time most didn't pan out due to costs.

I'd love a DKC 4. DKC games are some of my favorite ever. But the odds of getting a true DKC 4 are about 0. Nintendo and Rare want nothing to do with each other anymore, and Rare isn't even that good of a developer anymore. Pretty much all of the original staff that made DKC have long since gone. The series epic composer David Wise left not too long ago actually. Even if they tried to make a DKC4, i would suspect it wouldn't be a true sequel and would lack all the charm and ambiance of the originals.

I'd like to see another studio try their hand at it. Retro has proven themselves at making an extremely beautiful and ambient game, two things a DK game needs. They can really push a system too.

However, IGN is not a reliable source. They've predicted those games on Wii for one, that the DSi had two touchscreens before it was announced, and that the new 3DS will be as powerful as the PS3... Can't spell ignorance without IGN. But we'll see...

Nah wouldn't want DKC4, that series is best left alone not like I thought it was anything other than a good series its just that the Rare of that time should be the only ones to handle that series and that is it.

Let Retro Studios do their own take if they are actually doing it, no point in just copying others.

I'd like a new DK game. The last one I played was Jungle Climber and I loved it. I wouldn't want the new one to be DKC4 because, IMO, it probably wouldn't be as good as the old ones and will be frowned upon.

IMO "Jungle Climber" was terrible, absolute trash. I'm not hating on DK but if an attempt of making a DKC4 is made it'd be much better on a handheld such as DS or perhaps its successor the 3DS. But 'tis a rumor till tuesday, nothing to get excited about...

Donkey Kong hasn't been good since DK64 came out, every iteration after has been absolute shit. I would not say no to a side scrolling game for the DS, but I would love to see either a complete remaster of DK64 or a game with a similar style of adventure to it, though with less painful back tracking around and less collecting of random stuff. I used to love playing the original arcade and Jet Pack on DK64 though

That Gamecube DK platformer with the bongos was the shit. I had so much fun playing it, and then never used the bongos ever again. Would love to see a game like that again.
