Sorry if there has been a similar topic. I always told myself that the DSi was just a gimmick and not worth my money, but when I saw the XL in person for the first time, I couldn't resist. I'm planning on getting an xl later today and I've been wondering what's the best hardware to buy for it. I read somewhere that there is a new flash cart that will offer gba support from slot 1 making gba "backup" games possible on the dsi/xl. Is this true? If it's not out yet, what's the best flash cart for the xl and when can I expect a slot 1 with gba support?

That'd be the Supercard DS TWO, and yes, it will support GBA, but as far as I know it still hasn't been released, but it isn't far off, so if you want to get that, I think ShopTemp is taking pre-orders.

Take from a former DSi Owner, DSi isn't not better than the DS Lite.

The systems in my opinion atleast, are different. I personally perfer the DS Lite for GBA Compatibility and slot 2 option paks. I can still (pretty much) do everything but camera functions on DS Lite...

1. Does the DSi have 4.2-inch screens? Nope.
2. You're not even using any of the DSi's features. (DSi mode [more RAM, more CPU, access to camera, etc.], DSiWare, etc.)
3. DSi XL, not DSi.

And yes, the Supercard DSTWO has GBA support. It's supposed to be available later this month (well, it was supposed to be available 2 days ago, but it got delayed).

You're weird. I bought my DSi XL on launch day (about 20 minutes after store opening), and I could never go back to playing a DS lite (mine is broken, but other people's lites look like something made by Fisher-Price). Even when my cousin got his DSi, I couldn't go back to my DS lite (which was working at the time).

Just tell me one thing: Why don't you like the fact you can see everything better?

My hands cramp when I'm playing it before I go to sleep

Other than that, the screens are beautiful... and I've yet to play a game that DOESN'T look better on the XL.

Honestly, I think the native DS resolution was built for 4.2 inch screens. You would think that things would be blurrier, but I even think things look even clearer now with the bigger screens. Games have less of a "scrunched up" feeling.

But be prepared.. before you buy an XL you should start working out your forearms because the motherf**ker is heavy

A lot of people don't really seem to be grasping the basic concept behind the XL. It has much bigger screens that make playing DS games an even better experience. If you just want a handheld to play GBA games, buy an SP (bright). If you think the XL is going to be too heavy for your poor ickle arms then get off your ass and do some exercise! From my own experience it is actually better balanced in your hands than the Phat and as such the extra weight is not a problem.

For people saying they will wait for the 3DS - duh, it's a whole new platform, probably won't have big screens (due to the cost of the 3D LCD units), and guess what - it wont have GBA support.

DSi XL is the best DS experience you will get, simple as that.

My 6 week old baby weighs over 8 lbs. and is gaining an ounce a day. I think I can handle holding an 11 oz. dsi xl. Can anyone point me to a good deal? I saw meijer had 20% bing cashback about a month ago, but that's old news.

P.S. I wholeheartedly agree DS lite < DSi, while the XL is more a luxury purchase. Still, it's a steal compared to the iPad.

1. The DSi XL is only slightly heavier than a PSP-1000.
2. Technically, the DSi XL is only $2 more than the DSi (the XL comes with $18 worth of DSiWare)
3. Trust me, the XL's worth it.

I don't like this logic, because it's $18 of DSiWare I couldn't give a shit about (at least the Brain Age stuff) and can't exchange for money.

I only use my other DSi now when i go away to play it in the car on long trips and when my wife wants to drive my car (not often she's afraid to drive a big van)
DSi XL all the way!

I ONLY bought the XL for the larger screens.

I don't give a flying fuck for old shitty GBA carts, and I don't give a damn if the Guitar Hero game needs it (likely because I don't give a damn about Guitar Hero, likely the most over rated video game ever created).

I've used the camera about 10 times while screwing around. It's a camera, oh joy [insert sarcasm]. Ok for tourist grade pictures. Kinda requires you to be on vacation to take tourist pictures eh.

I might eventually get around to using the sd card option for something. Just unsure yet.

I don't mind that I can go online and browse now without needing the slot 2 ram cart I got with my Nintendo Browser purchase.

I like the screens being brighter too.

But really, I ONLY bought the XL because the screens were larger.

Oh and it fits in my goddamned pocket just fine by the way.

Granted before EB Games offered me 90 bucks for my DS lite, the price of those larger screens seemed a bit more than I was interested in.

For those worried about the larger screens ruining games resolution, give me a fucking break. Try to think up intelligent reasons.
