They are cheap on eBay, and the Linux flashing method was discovered by SDIO in a different thread about adapters with a different chipset. I just figured out how to do it in a web browser which works with Android phones and Windows 11.
it keeps the MAC address and serial number the same, and also gives you a copy of the original firmware in case you want to flash it back to stock, which you can also do from my web site.
These are effectively the same hardware as the official Nintendo branded Wii and Wii U Ethernet adapters, but until they are reflashed, the Wii and Wii U don't know that they can use them. They are 100% compatible even in vWii mode.
Give it a try if you want and let me know if you have any issues: https://itwasntmewhofarted.com/ethernet/
I forgot to include this at first, but since this uses WebUSB:
WebUSB Browser Compatibility
• Supported: Chromium-based browsers including Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Opera, and Samsung Internet (desktop and Android).
• Unsupported: Completely unsupported in Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, and iOS WebViews.
It should work on OSX at least with Chrome, but for technical reasons, it will not work even with iOS Chrome, so iPhones are unfortunately not a possibility.
If you need help, I'm also in the Wii U discord.
