I didn't expect this to happen this year but here we are.

The timing seems significant, with game preservation a hot topic this year. I wonder if there will be a community preservation effort like there was with Dragalia Lost.

I never got into the game as the early release was too easy. I gave it another go today it's quite different to what I remember. It seems better now. The controls are a bit more sensitive than I'd like on defaults but I'm guessing they can be changed.

What do people here think of Mario Kart Tour in its final form?

I played the game since the beginning. As a casual game is actually very fun to play. I only play it occasionally in short sessions and neve spent a cent on it.

Its actually one of the very few mobile games that i play when i'm waiting on a doctors office or something similar. I'm sad its going to be shut down :(.

One of the things i was impressed was the graphics, when it came out. They were very similar to Mario Kart 8, bright, colorful and all around good looking.
The control was/is so simple and it works very well.

Online was also fun, but i didn't play a much in that mode.

Is Mario Kart adapted to a touch screen. Its fun and i will miss it.

I stopped playing this years ago as it got so boring and the online matches felt like it was just a bunch of bots than real people.

So after it's discontinued... Offline Mode? 😅

RIP everyone who spent money on it. I thought it might go on forever, like these gacha games tend to. I had my fun with it, never spent more than maybe 10 bucks on it which I think the game is worth. Maybe they'll come out with a sequel.

No offline mode is planned. Nintendo is just going to euthanize it so the only way it will exist is in memories and videos

This is why I don't invest into online only games. Learned my lesson with the utterly fantastic Dragalia Lost from them. Such a stunningly well written set of characters and intertwining stories, and they nuked it. Many fans were hurt and pissed enough to recreate the network and keep the existing game alive to play on hacked IOS devices and android which says a lot. I just bailed on it, saw it all, so it would get boring.

At least some of the tracks are still playable in Mario Kart 8 and chances are we'll be able to play more of then in future Mario Kart World DLC or the next Mario Kart. I can't complain personally because I only played the game once and didn't get into it.

I think it’s great that you gave Mario Kart Tour another chance. It’s interesting how much a game can change after updates, and preservation would be worthwhile if the community wants to keep it playable long-term. Compared with its early days, the final version has a lot more content to explore. I’d love to see fans organize something similar to the Dragalia Lost preservation effort, especially for a game with so much unique content and character variety.

It would be interesting, but also Nintendo would rock anyones world trying it, but if someone could scrape 100% of that data as it exists now, then compile/recompile it into something that works across numerous formats kind of like how you see all those N64 games getting the treatment now. Nintendo would shit a brick over it, but it would keep the thing as is alive and well for people to enjoy into the future other than hoping X course makes it into next build of kart.

I know it had the various online modes and what not, but I would think someone well versed in coding, hacking, use of AI with all the assets out there to work it might be able to make a Mario Kart Tour stand alone game, skirt around the issues, make people find 'the assets' to patch into it where you could have a single player and online playing modes as a thing to do. it would be a hell of an ambitious package deal though if it were attempted.

I know it had the various online modes and whatnot, but I think someone well-versed in coding, hacking, and AI could potentially use all the available assets and resources, including discussions on platforms like ap33 malaysia, to create a standalone Mario Kart Tour game with single-player and online modes. It would be a hell of an ambitious package deal, though, if someone actually attempted it.
I agree, it would be a massive undertaking, but preserving the game’s current content would be worth the effort. The biggest challenges would probably be recreating the server-side features, handling online multiplayer, and making everything work across different platforms. A fan-made standalone version could be interesting, but Nintendo’s intellectual property rights would make public distribution complicated. Even a community preservation project that keeps the courses, characters, and gameplay accessible offline would be a huge win for fans.

It's doable. You just have to be smart, very very guarded, and have that thing like 99% bugfree before co-announcing/dropping it, and leaving it super super open ended, everything public when released so the community despite the quite fast to come take down notice can just roll with it. AM2R did this, had a week window for a few fixes, and then he got the final threat. But since then because of that similar route, a community popped up to make new games, clean it up more, add features, and so on because it's a solid tool kit of options and Nintendo couldn't do shit about it.

The same could be done on this one. Get all the assets, crush it, have the MP side hosted in a non-IP friendly area for the server they can't touch, get all those assets out there with a very edit and tool kit friendly design so when it gets swatted down people can just mock them and roll with more updates, more games, more tracks, features, offer up vanilla, and fanfic fun.
